Best strain for Crohns Colitis??

Crohn's Disease Forum

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

Doctors don't prescribe any strains...they can only hand out "recommendations" which is essentially a license to partake in the ingestion of medical cannabis.

I've found that pure indica strains work the best, especially indica strains high in CBD such as Cannatonic, Harlequin, or anything from the CBD Crew. Unfortunately, these CBD strains are a new fad and are hard to come by.

Northern Lights #5 and Bubba Kush work great for me when I don't have access to high CBD strains. I recently stopped using MJ for a month and my symptoms returned. I've been using Northern Lights #5 bubble hash 1-3 hits per day for about 3 weeks and I'm asymptomatic again :)

Hope that helps...feel free to PM me if you have any cannabis related questions.

Fantastic. Thanks so much. Yeah i meant recommend, not prescribe. It would be kinda funny to get a dr's note with "OG Kush" written on it . I will be sure to PM you if I have any additional questions.

How could I forget OG Kush! :thumright: OG Kush has also worked great for me, but it's a difficult plant to grow. Low yields...but an awesome strain for sure.

Maybe in the future doctors will have the strains down to a science. For now it's mostly anecdotal evidence when it comes to what strains work for IBD. Good luck!

Unfortunately, being a schedule one narcotic (ridiculous, I know!), the scientific community cannot legally test different strains for the effectiveness of individual components. Doctors therefore, cannot necessarily recommend a particular strain emphasizing a particular cannabinoid component. Any information regarding particular components are mostly anecdotal from users' experiences.

Myself, I find Thai strains to be the best, yet most people would just say, "Its a Sativa, therefore it will work best for X...". Yet some growers are saying that Thai is unique from most Indicas and Sativas, almost warranting it's own designation. It would be nice for science to test and verify this!

Fortunately,I'm in California and testing for content is starting to happen in independent labs. The time is coming when real studies will be made.

Cheers, all!

I don't have much of a selection because I don't live in a MM state but I got some Luca Brasi from Colorado a few months ago and it is really nice. I look forward to when I can use it regularly.

I find it amazing how our government decides what drugs should be legal and what should not. One would presume legal drugs are safe right? Like nicotine, caffeine and alcohol. Oh wait, I am being rational and logical, always the first mistake when considering what our government does.

Even from a medical perspective, I'm willing to bet the potentially dangerous side effects of a biologic are significantly worse than that of MMJ.

CBD strains are supposedly great for inflammation but make sure you have some THC ones on hand too in case you get nausea, lose your hunger or have cramps. If you're looking to buy a CBD strain look up CBD Crew or buy Harlequin or Cannatonic. I've got the strain Snow White coming in about a month, supposedly good for intestinal pain..will let everyone know.

I just picked up some CBD Tincture. If you don't know about CBD I'll give you the low down. Canabus has 2 major components. Most people are familiar with THC. THC is the euphoric component of the cannabis plant with proven medical benefits. It has analgesic properties and has been shown to stimulate appetite, relive chronic pain and lethargy, as well as to simulate creativity. CBD is a natural component of the cannabis plant with proven medical benefits. It is an uplifting, natural analgesic that relieves pain, symptoms of depression, nausea and lethargy while improving concentration. CBD has heuro-protective properties and is the balancing component to THC.

The biggest benefit of CBD is that it doesn't get you high. It comes as a spray mist. I took my first dose about an hour ago. I was having horrible cramps and a lot of pain in my joints. It took about 5 minutes to kick in. My head is clear and I feel comfortable driving my car and going to work. I highly recommend this if you have access to it.

CBD can also be obtained by juicing the fan leaves of the plant if you grow your own, which can then be re-used to make edibles or tinctures. CBD does have a psychoactive component, it is however non intoxicating. It can render an ineffective dose of THC active.

A spray mist is one of the ways to use it. I'm glad it works well for you!

Thanks for the info Francis. I'm fairly new to the medical marijuana scene. I was fortunate enough to find a MM doctor who is considered a pioneer in the field. His name is Dr. Alan Frankel. Here's a link to his web page and blog if anyone is interested http://www.greenbridgemed.com/.

Glad to hear it and thanks for the info. I unfortunately live in one of the most archaic states in the union when it comes to MJ laws. I hope that as more and more information about the positive affects of CBD and MMJ in general become known, even my state will some day be forced to consider making MMJ legal.

In all reality, I think when states like Wisconsin see the tax revenues generated in Washington and Colorado from legal MJ, they will consider legalizing. They will shift their position from stating they need to protect the public from this horrible illicit drug to legalization for the sole reason of generating more tax revenue. I can just hear the politicians once adamantly apposed to MJ legalization stating how their views on the issue have evolved. Yeah right! It almost makes you wonder what they have been smoking. :eek2:

As people have mentioned above it's all about the CBD's which act on the receptors in your gut to start the healing process. However if the cause of the inflammation is still there you won't benefit from the cannabis.

I have found that during the daytime I smoke sativas like Jack herer, or Chocolate thai with a little kush mixed in--great for energy and mental stimulation, at night i smoke heavy indicas like Hindu Kush or Bubba Kush . Totally cuts down on my BM's and I can actually eat 3 meals a day!! but yeah --Bubba kush, green hornet, jack herer are all great strains for Crohn's
