Hi! Just reading this post today, because I was just told I have Crohn's today. I just have a question about this birth control thing. I've been on the pill for 10 years, I'm 22 now, yeah I know I started young :(. Anyways, I have been thinking about changing birth control for a while now, due to completely different reasons. But now that I have Crohn's, I'm pretty convinced I should try and get off the pill right away. Any opinions on the IUD? I would like to stay on some sort of birth control, however I am completely open to getting off the pill. I tried the nuva ring and hated it. Would love to hear some ideas!

Hi kpetr549, I've moved your post to its own thread so that it won't get lost and should get more replies. :) Can I ask why you hated nuvaring? I was on the pill for about 10 years myself, and switched to nuvaring about 6 months after my symptoms started. My reasoning was, I was having so much diarrhea that I wasn't sure if I was properly absorbing my birth control pill, and I definitely did NOT want an "oopsie" pregnancy to happen while I was feeling so rotten! The ring has been good for me, I quite like it. What are your reasons for wanting to come off the pill? There are other options besides IUD - I know there's the depo shot, and there's also implantable birth control (I think it goes under the skin in your arm? This is what I'm remembering from like 9th grade sex ed class which was about 20 years ago so I may not be remembering that right!). It sounds like you've just been diagnosed, so you might want to make an appointment with your doctor and talk about your BC options given your new diagnosis. Good luck! And welcome to the forum! :)

I use the birth control patch. One a week for 3 weeks then one week off for your period. Working well so far. Switched from pill to this on gyno's suggestion. :)
