bleeding.....

Warning: may be graphic! So pretty much one day I have bad diarrhea and the next day it's constipation. But it seems like every day I have bleeding...usually more so with the constipation. Today was one of the scariest episodes yet...the bleeding after I went just wouldn't stop. It took almost 10 wipes before it finally stopped, and I was freaking out. I called my doctor's office and the secretary said she'll let my doctor know right away. But every other time I've called with bleeding...my doctor seems to take it lightly and never seems concerned. This concerns me to the point of severe anxiety, I'm afraid that I'm losing so much blood that I'll pass out, or that my stricture is turning into an obstruction...UGH so frustrating! Why is there so much bleeding every time I go...And I just started on Humira yesterday! I know it'll take about a week for it to work, but this is a heartbreaker! Please help! Does anybody else have this constant bleeding, and can somebody please offer me some advice/support??? :(

Is it red or black? Red is not as serious but black or dark is. If you doctor doesnt think it is as bad, take a pic of the picture and show it to him... that'll make him not take it so lightly. Humira takes up to 6 weeks to fully work. Keep bugging your doctor you pay for his services not his sarcasm. Try it you will get his attention. Try not to stress ok? I know easier said then done.

At my worst I was losing about a pint of blood every 2 - 3 days.. it is amazing what our bodies can stand. The suggestion about taking a picture of the blood, welllll, I did that. It got the doctors attention. However, have you asked your dr. what he thinks the source of the bleeding is? He may know about a fissure or a pile of internal hemmerhoids (I can never spell that right) to which he attributes the bleeding but hasn't discussed it with you because its minor potatoes in the overall scheme of things. As to the color thing, tho its true the darker the color the more important it may be, it really only establishes one thing for certain... it is coming from higher up in the GI tract. It still could be a minor bleed up there. Bright red blood means it is coming from way lower down in the GI tract, like the colon, ailmentary tract or even the rectum. And it could be from something as tame as hemmeroids... that is commonly what it is. But just cause that is common, doesn't mean one should assume so and just ignore it. If it is freaking you out (and apparently it is), call your doctor and insist on an examination or explanation as to where this bleeding is occuring.
Better to know than to guess. But it probably is something pretty typical, OK?

It is red...and I have had terrible fissures in the past where the pain when I went to the bathroom was so bad that I can honestly say it was the worst pain I have ever felt in my entire life, and I have been through some extremely painful situations. It was also accompanied by some blood, but only small amounts compared to what I've seen lately. I was prescribed a multitude of creams that never worked but eventually it healed up and the pain went away for awhile. Now the pain is back but not NEARLY as bad as it was before, but now the bleeding is a lot worse.

Take a picture and show your doc. He won't understand how much blood it is until you show him. Call your doc.

Best of luck,

Jeff

Hi everyone,
My brother was diagnosed with Crohn's 4 months ago. Monday, he lost about 4 pints of blood rectally in a matter of 2 minutes. We had to call an ambulance and he's been in the hospital the last 5 days. He underwent a series of blood transfusions to get him stable and out of shock. Frustratingly, he's been scoped both down the throat and up the colon since he's been there and they have found no cause to the bleed. But he's still bleeding with each bowel movement. It's very scary! Doctors keep saying they're afraid to do more surgery in case he bleeds out...has this sort of incident happened to anyone? what can we do to make sure he's getting the right care? They sent him home today but he is still bleeding, which is definitely a concern for us. We are so new to Crohn's we have no idea what to expect.
