I went for some blood tests last week due to some bleeding. My gp phoned me today and said they got the results and could I come back in this week for another blood test. I've been having blood tests done for the past year and never had this happen before, but they wouldn't tell me why. Has anyone had this happen to them before?

Thanks :)

I've had to go in for secondary blood work after the primary was looked over by the doc. But usually I make the doc send me a copy of the results so I can determine what he's found if he doesn't inform me. I would ask him if you have questions or concerns needing blood taken again.

I have had that happen a few times, once was because my iron levels were very high even though I'd been very anemic in the last visit, turned out they had given me too high a dose for my size, they called me in for second test to confirm and then told me to stop taking them straight away.
Other times it was to check inflammation markers and the like.

Have you been on meds that need you to be checked so regular or were they just routine tests. I agree with Jessica tell your doc of your concerns and get results sent to you. I get copy of blood results at every visit and it helps my to understand what going on with my condition.

I hope all goes well for you

I have also had this happen a few times.

It is possible that something went wrong with the test in terms of your blood being lost or contaminated somehow. I am not sure exactly how this would happen but instead of telling a patient this I think they would just say the test needs to be reperformed.

If a certain level is too low or high they also might want a second test to confirm if the level is what they saw the first time around or if it was an anomaly for whatever reason.

Don't overly worry about it. Your GP will call you I am sure again with the results from the 2nd test if there is concern or you can always call if you have not heard back in over a week or so.

Hi thanks for the replies everyone :)
