After having more blood tests last week I saw my GI specialist last Tuesday. He showed me the results of my blood tests and said they pretty much confirm the diagnosis of Crohn's Disease. So I guess it is official....

I'm attaching both the request for the blood tests, and the results sheet with (I hope this works, I haven't attached any documents to a message before)

Hi Gra :)

I'm not sure how those results confirm the diagnosis of Crohn's Disease as I'm just seeing some markers for inflammation and microcytic anemia but after reading your "Your Story" thread, I think it's a reasonably solid diagnosis with everything put together.

Be sure to keep all these results so you can quantify your improvement over time.

Did they outline a treatment plan for you yet?

My apologies for taking a while to respond. I've not had a lot of energy lately, thanks to a lack of haemoglobin and trying to establish a new food routine. My gastroenterologist has put me on to a four-week course of prednisolone starting at 2 x 25 mg tablets per day for the first week and then going down to a half a 25 mg tablet per day in the fourth week.

I'm well into my second week now, I seem to have a lot of ups and downs, lows and highs, partly caused by depression (I've had personal problems over the past five or six years, and now Crohn's disease), and I suspect also partly from being on the prednisolone. The gastroenterologist told me that the preds can make you feel energetic, had a number of days where I felt like I could to do lots of work, and I try to, and hit a brick wall because I don't have the energy resources to call on. I also have days where I can't focus or concentrate on anything, which is very annoying.

I think one of my biggest problems at the moment is trying to figure out how to get enough proteins into myself on this resticted diet, I am losing weight at a rapid pace, a couple of kilos in the last two or three weeks. I'm not not sure if I should call the GI and tell him.

Thanks for listening,
Graham

If you're having trouble with diet, you may want to look into enteral nutrition. Not only will it help you get the nutrients you need, but can actually help and induce and maintain remission! :)

Thank you Dave, I hope I don't have to resort to that.

A few people on one of the other forums has suggested that I try Ensure Plus, and I found local source, I'm going to buy some and try it out. I have also advised my gastroenterologists rooms about my weight loss, waiting for him to get back to me and see what he says.
