So I am a bleeder. Haven't stopped for more than a day or two in almost 18 months....I start with a new doc tomorrow...and today, I had one of my newer symptoms.....

Is there a difference between having lots of liquid blood vs. large bloody clots????

I seem to be slowing in frequency and urgency (this week anyway) but now have large clots coming out? Do you think that could just be from not going as much? I did have something like this happen once before and asked my old doc about it and he just stared at me with a blank look on his face.

Just wondering.

It could be. Blood clots when it's stationary. So, if you are going to the toilet often if would have less time to sit there and clot and come out more liquid like.

That would be my best educated guess anyway.

Don't have much advice for you but just wanted to wish you well - that's a long time to be passing blood! Hope your iron levels are okay after all that bleeding.

Good luck getting things under control! - Amy

I have had something similar. I had bleeding ulcers in my intestines. It did seem the the days I went fewer times, there was more blood. So I agree with above, but it's best to have your doctor check it out. I know they didn't take my bleeding serious at first, and the second test they did was a barium enema,( I'll take a colonoscopy over that anyway!) and the nurses freaked out when they saw how much blood was coming out.

So what's a barium enema?? I had to give myself enemas nightly for a while - that was fun. I've had a lot of tests, but not that one. I will ask tomorrow. I can only imagine how freaky that would be to someone who's not used to seeing that much blood come out of a butt!!!

So I just went and looked up barium enema....sounds a lot like the 2 hour MRI I had....holy cow was that a torture chamber. I had to drink 3 big containers(I'd guess they were close to 24 ounces EACH....I shudder thinking of that day) of that nasty stuff on an empty stomach. I asked the nurse what would happen if I puked it all up. She laughed and said, "it happens." Oh so much fun.

have you had you blood count checked? Are you anemic? I would wonder about how much blood you are losing. Sorry I don't mean to freak you out but I work in a lab and I see stuff like this like everyday.

I've had so many blood draws I feel like a regular at the hospital lab! LOL The 2 docs that have been doctoring me the past year aren't alarmed by anything. Can a body get used to this?? I do take a lot of supplements, so I don't know if that's what keeps my numbers good or not. So many questions.

Clotted blood just means that it has been inside for a little longer and had time to clot. Doesn't relate to the amount really. If you had profuse bleeding or diarrhoea then the blood is not inside you for as long so it is less likely to clot but you can bleed a lot and if you do not have a bm then it will form a clot....I hope that makes sense.

Makes sense to me. Thanks! This is what I was hoping too.
