Just rang to check how Kian bloods were this time and all is good apart form one (which i cant remember the name) its for infection and his was slightly raised. Asked if he had had a cold recently but he hasnt but he was off his food a few weeks ago so im thinking maybe he had a slight tummy bug, even though he wasnt unwell. Theyre not concerned but it still makes me worry. xx

Its so easy to let the worry take over! :ghug: But I try to keep in mind that Stephen may have crohns but that doesn't mean he won't also have everyday, typical bugs, viruses, etc. These may at times be reflected in his labs but doesn't mean it will be reflected in his 'crohns'. Stephen once had his CRP (inflammation marker) jump from the low teens to 30+, I immediately worried  but tried to keep in mind that he had also recently injured his shoulder and the inflammation was likely only reflecting THAT inflammation (which was the case). :)

I have been thinking back and Kian was complaining of a sore throat 2 weeks ago so maybe that the reason his marker for inflammation was raised a bit. xx

yep Sed rate takes a while to raise but also awhile to lower.
C-reactive protein is the short term one.

Sorry, i said inflammation in my last post , i meant infection. Just had call again from nurse just to say when he has his check at the childrens hospital they will do bloods again. Are there 2 markers for infection as she said one is slightly up and other is fine. xx

Gee I don't know. O doesn't get any "infection" bloods per se. CRP and Sed Rate can indicate infection if there is an inflammatory response so maybe she is referring to the inflammation markers? O had on one occasion a big spike in her sed rate and it was due to a bad cold a week or so prior.

Either way, I wouldn't worry...or rather I would say I am not going to worry and then anxiously await the next blood test. When is his next appointment?

Hope it all turns out to be nothing.

I think what Crohnsinct said, plus also, and someone else is bound to know - if your WBC is high that usually indicates your body is fighting an infection right? So maybe inflammation markers were good, but WBC was on the high side?

Can you get a copy of his labs? (Will they email them to you?)

His next app is in 2 weeks and more bloods will be done then. he is very well in himself so maybe it was the sore throat that done it? they said not to be worrying (they know im such an anxious mother, lol) will update again once he has had his next app. xx

I would say White Blood Cell count is the test they would be referring to. A raised WBC can be any sort of infection. It is a bit more of a concern if he is on a medication that is suppose to lower the White Blood Cell count like 6mp. If he is on a med like that I would say that they might want to up his dose??

I know it is hard not to worry. Hope you get some answers soon. (((((Hugs))))))

Hi there
I got a call like that re H's labs. It was related to a blood count, could have been WBC (can not remember). Anyway they asked if he was sick or fighting something and not to worry. The next blood test was fine. I am pretty sure it was the same time his brother had fifths disease and H never got it...but he was probably fighting it. His inflammation markers were good at the time also.

So you most likely have nothing to worry about...but if like me, will worry anyway.
