My Dr ordered bloodwork to establish a baseline as I just started on Imuran. The one flag that came back from the bloodwork was very low MCHC....from what I could find, is it means anemia.

Is this a big deal? I see my Dr on Wednesday but in the interim I am curious :)

How low?

Also, what is your current haemoglobin levels? Did they test for ferritin (long term iron storage)?

Crohn's related iron deficiency that can result in anaemia is common, but law MCHC can also have other reasons or just be a fluke (like high albumin etc.).

MCHC is 298 and the range is between 315-365 g/L
Ferritin is 69 ug/L

Not sure what the healthy range is for ferritin....

It not consider anemia at this stage because the hemoglobin is in arrange. But it could be heading that way.

Yes, the haemoglobin is in the normal range. Ferritin at 69 is also in the normal range.

MCHC is below the lower boundary, but not that much. This could be just a fluke, or something to consider. It is best to talk to your doc about it, and probably monitor things further. You are nowhere near anaemia right now and also do not have iron deficiency at the moment, at least based on those results.
