Bloody bowel movements - normal?

I've had Crohn's for ~10 years now (I am 23) and get blood exams regularly, including prometheus lab tests - plus I had a colonoscopy, and barium test + ultrasound test about half a year ago.
My doctor never changes my dosage so I assume that means everything is fine.

However, throughout my whole time as a patient, I've had periods of 3-4 months where I would experience bloody bowel movements.
Is blood in my stools normally a cause for alarm and a medication dosage change?

I'm afraid that my doctor may not be doing a good job and not noticing problems - since he reads the tests and doesn't recommend changes and yet I still bleed a lot.

The bright red toilet seat is a psychological shock, to say the least. However I don't FEEL sick at all, and in fact, I never have felt sick from Crohn's.

Also note - I have Crohn's in the 'terminal illeum' which I hear gives dark blood, BUT my blood is usually bright red. The blood is only dark when I also have diarreah and it's mixed with it. Also, I notice that it often leaks out at different times than the feces itself. In fact sometimes I'll go to the bathroom and have blood but almost no feces at all. (Sorry to be graphic)
What I'm trying to say is, it doesn't seem to be mixed with the feces itself.

What should I do next time I see blood?

See a doc.. ask if you have any other causes for bleeding.. like internal heamreroids (sp?). These can be the cause of a lot of bright red blood... and they can be common due to the extra strain IBD puts on the rectum.... without offering symtoms
common to external (visible) haemeroids.. like itching, burning, painful swelling. Now I'm no doctor... but it seems like you aren't totally confident with yours. Wouldn't a second opinion be in order... just to be sure your primary doctor is on right course?

Bright red blood usually indicates bleeding hemorrhoids. I've had this happen many times during bouts of flares. And I've had that happen where only blood comes out.

But if you told your doctor, he should have told you this. If he can't give you an answer you should try another.
