Okay, I woke up with pain in my hip and leg. I was at the doc last week and he suggested meds like Boniva. My questions for you experienced and unexperienced:) --Who takes it? Any side effects? And, does it replace bone loss? Or stop? Sue

I'd consult Dr. Google on that one Sue - you'd probably get more reliable information. I had osteopenia from too many years of steroid use. My doctor put me on Miacalcin nasal spray. It seemed to help after a long while as my DEXA scans improved. I believe Boniva is a bit more of a hard hitter to get the job done quicker. Have to be careful with those meds though....fosamax is another one that has some controversy surrounding it. As always with our meds...we have to weigh the risks with the benefits.

I havent enquired about it yet. Going for a bone density soon and I am cautious with Calcium intake because I am a major Kidney stone producer. I am waiting for my test results if need be. Low Potassium levels can cause muscle pain too, have you had it checked?? Take care, and keep us updated.

I took Fosamax the first round of Pred I was on. I didn't notice anything weird with it. I believe the Fosamax was just to prevent more bone density loss.

My sister told me there have been all these lawsuits with Fosamax and jaw issues. I did a really quick search before I answered up top to validate it and had a bunch of hits. I think it is more with looong term use.
