Had an illeocecal resection on Friday and was wondering when I'll have normal bowel movements again? Right now I've been having accidents and feel like I have to pass gas but it's just liquid water with coffee grounds. Is this gonna continue? Howling does it take to have normal bowel movements again?

You need to give yourself at least two weeks to feel normal again and up to two months to feel completely back to your normal self.

Stock up on high fiber foods and cut back foods with saturated fats (esp greasy or fried foods). The high fiber helps to produce regular BMs.

I'm afraid the non-air gas will become a risk. I still get them five years after my resection. The key is to isolate the offending food or combination of foods. Pack spare clean underwear in your car, office desk, etc.

All I do since my resection is have yellow frothy diarrhea and tons of non-stop air and gas. This is miserable. It even wakes me. Is this normal? When does this stop?

I still think it's very early days but personally I didn't experience this but every experience is different. It's a good sign they discharged you... What you go through for the first couple of months is while your bowel is adjusting it won't stay like this forever.

I hope not because I seriously cannot handle this. This is no quality of life. If anyone else has experienced this please let me know. Feeling so helpless and miserable. Not sure what to expect.

I was having accidents the first three or four months after my resection. It seems like things started settling down shortly afterwards. Everyone is a little different.

Go easy on the food, not too much, don't overload your system as its still healing from the surgery, take pro biotics to help digestion and reduce gas. Ask the doctor what is the best diet and exercise routine to use while recovering.
