Bowel perforation treatment

so after a few days in the hospital and many tests my doctors have found a perforation in my large intestine, the plan of treatment is to put a drain in my abdomen to allow the fluid that is spilling out of the intestines to drain which would allow the perforation to heal.

has anyone had treatment like this? if so was it successful?

my doctors only want to use surgery as a last resort because they want to avoid surgery as I might have complication or other problems later on in life.
