I am 25 years old and was diagnosed with colitis at the age of 18. I have been taking Asacol since the age of 18.

Roughly 6 months ago I began having pains in my right side but only when I slept.

My doctor sent me for blood work, x-ray and ultra sound, which didn't show anything.

Recently I took a CT Scan of my abdominal and pelvic area and it came back a thickening of the bowel/colonic walls.

Unfortunately my family doctor seems absolutely clueless when it comes to colitis. He has referred me to the specialist who takes months to even get an appointment with.

I was wondering if anyone had any information on what this could be or how serious?

Iniitlal google searches show potential colonic malignancy which if that is the case I want to take action prior to waiting months for an appointment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Greg

Hi Greg my first CT scan showed thickening of the duodenum and terminal ileum the radiologist was fairly certain it was inflammation and 99% sure it wasn't a tumor. I think if they suspected anything sinister you would have been referred urgently to a GI also you would be having other symptoms alongside. They were able to tell me that mine was significant thickening and most likely due to IBD. Tel your doc your concerns and see if he can get the report and a faster appointment.
