I am just curious to know, how many of you can eat breakfast or who eats breakfast.

As far back as I can remember (only 33 here lol) I have not been able to eat breakfast as it would make me nauseous, I always had to wait at least 2 hours afte waking up to let my system relax. This was even before I had tummy problems.

Anyone else like this or similar experiences.

I can eat breakfast, and usually do. If I allow myself to get more than a little hungry, I often get very nauseous.

Editing to add, I don't eat soon after waking up. It's usually several hours for me as well, but it doesn't seem to bother me to eat earlier.

I think afidz has mentioned this before and might know more. :)

I have breakfast every day. If I don't, I would have a problem... and get grumpy.

Normally Early Grey Tea (lightly brewed) with a bit of sugar, no milk, bread or toast with a bit of butter and honey. In some cases, I also eat some cornflakes with milk (I actually prefer them in the evening). On the weekend I sometimes have ham and eggs and bread, tea etc.

Eating first thing in the morning always made me nauseous too, even when I was a very young child I can remember my mom trying to force me to eat breakfast and I often resisted because just didn't feel well eating that early. It made me feel nauseous and just generally unwell. (I didn't develop IBD until just before I turned 30, so this is just how I've always been.) From about elementary school onwards, I always skipped breakfast because I felt better not eating it.

A few years ago when I was started on Entocort, I was told to take it with food first thing in the morning. Ugh, I didn't feel like I could do that! I compromised and took it with an Ensure or similar supplement drink in the mornings. It sucked at first, but my body gradually got used to having a liquid breakfast, and even now that I'm just on Delzicol for the IBD (which you are NOT supposed to take with food), I still have a supplement drink in the mornings. I usually get up at 6 AM and get to work at 8:30, and I've found that by that time I'm actually a little hungry, which is fairly new for me. So sometimes when I get to work, I have a supplement drink and a small breakfast (a pastry or a hard-boiled egg - admittedly I had a piece of cheesecake for breakfast today!). That's been going quite well, for the first time in my life I'm actually eating breakfast and doing well with it. I'm not sure if it's because my IBD is now in a good, stable remission or if it's just because I slowly & gradually introduced my body to the idea of getting some calories right away in the morning. At any rate, it seems possible to change and not have so much nausea from eating breakfast. :)

I eat breakfast, but its not right when I get up. I usually get up at 5:30 and have my meds with a glass of juice and wait for the nausea to pass, and after the kids get up and they are fed I eat something (7:30, 8:00). But I don't usually do breakfast food. I eat leftovers from the night before, or eat cold chicken from the fridge...sometimes I'll have bacon and eggs or a pancake with the kids.

If I'm having a really bad tummy day I'll just have tea or I'll make a smoothie.

I never did eat breakfast when i was working. But now that I'm retired I have 2 ensure's for breakfast. I started doing this about 3-4 months ago and it seams to help with everything. I stay right at 160lbs.

I hope this helps.

(I heat it up in the microwave and its like hot coco)

I'm usually able to do breakfast - but breakfast for me is a shake with almond milk, yogurt, peaches, banana, and some herbalife powder. No solids until lunchtime. When I was at my worst, I had trouble drinking more than 2-3 sips before I wanted to take a break.

I haven't had breakfast in 9 years, except on a handful of occasions when I couldn't avoid it. Always seems to be pretty bad for me.

DS can't handle breakfast either. He usually has 1/2 an Ensure to get his meds down, but that's all he can handle on school days. On weekends, he usually eats some sort of breakfast a couple of hours after waking up. It's as if his system needs time to wake up or something.

I eat breakfast every day. I usually wake up at about 4:30 but I don't eat until about 10:00. My breakfast is always very light, especially since I'm currently having an active flare. My body doesn't function without fuel. The trade off is that I have to take a few extra breaks at work to use the bathroom.

I can't skip breakfast or I get very nauseous and weak. I usually eat scrambled eggs and a homemade yogurt, or some kefir milk and a banana, or cream of rice. Mild food seems to be the best for me. I have a problem drinking any liquids before I eat too or get sick to my stomach.

I also get very nauseous in the morning and need to wait a while for my system to wake up before eating. It might just be getting used to a schedule because for a while I forced my body to eat 10 min after waking up.

not very often, but if i do,i wait a few hours, iused to just have toast and butter, which made me runto the loo straight after eating it,but rice crispies cereal was ok,or toast and jam,peanutbutter....mmmmm love it!!!
Helps when i go out mountain biking as i get pretty tired after a while with no fuel to burn,i end up stuffing my face with jelly babies,

The funny thing is - when I was healthy (as a child) I didn't eat breakfast. I just didn't feel hungry in the mornings, and I assumed this was because before you've done anything active you don't need more fuel. Though of course my mum was always forcing a banana and a glass of milk down my throat because she thought breakfast was important for growing children (and was probably right). :)

Now I do eat breakfast because I have such a hard time keeping my weight up that I can't afford to miss a meal time. I follow the "little and often" rule, as big meals fill me up too much. So in order to get as many little meals and snacks in as possible, I have to start first thing in the morning. Usually a low-fibre cereal with full fat milk and sugar (I really do need more calories... it's not even that I like sugar on my cereal, I just don't understand why I'm not gaining weight), maybe with some fruit and a glass of milk or juice.

Often my intestines object to eating at that time and it makes me need the loo, but actually that can happen at any meal, so I might as well stick with having breakfast.

Skipping breakfast actually makes the body go into starvation mode, which can cause muscle wasting and decreased brain function. I always try to eat something even when I don't feel up to it. Some days it's a challenge to find something my belly likes or will at least tolerate. Plus for me, I work out right away in the morning, and not eating before working out isn't good for the bod either. Food is fuel!

I remember always skipping breakfast in high school, which is when my problems with Crohn's first started, and I would often skip into my 20s as well. As far back as I can remember, eating right after waking up just was never appealing to me. Usually didn't get hungry until a few hours after waking.

During pregnancy, that changed, and I got a lot more regular about breakfast, so my system is a little more used to this being a daily thing now. However, especially when flaring (as I am now), I do still have many days where I just don't want to do it. I usually still force myself to have something small, though (a few bites of oatmeal, a piece of toast). But mornings are also my worst times for nausea and diarrhea too. Even when not flaring, a glass of juice or cup of tea in the morning on an empty stomach often means I'll throw up.

This is an interesting question, by the way!

I have found that something mild, like homemade yogurt and canned peaches, sits fairly well with my stomach when nothing else will. I know each of us is different with what foods we tolerate, but even when I don't feel up to it, I try to eat a little something. It definitely makes a difference in how I feel for the rest of the day.

Breakfast is part of my morning ritual. Wake up, stretch, crap, eat. Eat some animal protein, 2 servings veg 2 fruit and flax oil for omega 3s. I'm shocked at how many people don't eat it. Even working at a gym I find many don't.
