Im trying to get some ideas. What does your Breakfest, Lunch, Dinner consist of on a typical day?

I'm awful, I was still asleep until 1pm today so I missed breakfast, lunch was 1 carton of elemental plus a cup of tea with soya milk and I haven't even thought about dinner. However I do have a LOFFLEX (low fat/fibre limited exclusion diet) for Crohn's book and the suggested daily menu is as such -

Breakfast - Puffed rice cereal (with soya milk) plus 2 rice cakes with dairy free spread.
Mid Morning - Pear.
Lunch - Grilled chicken, boiled rice, lettuce and cucumber then tinned peaches to follow.
Evening Meal - Grilled haddock, boiled potatoes and carrots with a soya yoghurt to follow.

Suggested beverages are herbal or fruit teas, ribena, fresh fruit juices such as pineapple or grape and obviously good old water too.

Hopefully that helps a little! :D

I like having eggs for breakfast. Usually don't do it every day, but at least a few times a week I eat scrambled eggs. They're especially yummy if you cook them on a cast-iron skillet. I find that it heats up very fast, and it cooks almost instantly. But I let the eggs get golden-brown or ever so slightly burned because scrambled eggs + Maillard reaction = yummy. Plus I've always found eggs to be pretty easy on my stomach. In fact, just about most breakfast foods are, which if why that's my favorite meal I think. Muffins, pancakes, etc are all pretty easy to digest. And my sinful breakfast food is bacon. It's one of the few meats that don't bother me, so I eat it pretty often. Gotta get protein from somethin' right?

For lunch I just much on something light. Crackers, pretzels. For dinner I tend to eat rice a lot, or corn on the cob when it's in season. With some meat, if it's a kind I like/can tolerate. Or I just have random things like Eggos. :p

And cooking on cast iron will add trace elements of iron into your food, so the food science folks say, which isn't a bad thing at all. ;)

I know not of this thing called breakfast though. I think that's that thing that's just eaten every once in a long while, like on weekends with the family and special days at the Waffle House. As I recall, it usually involves eggs, pancakes or waffles and sometimes biscuits and sausage country gravy. Or sometimes, in my case, just biscuits and sausage country gravy. ;)

Holly cow you got to be kidding me... if I eat too much eggs I have horrible gas and stomach pain. Muffin, pancakes... (isnt that bad for you with all the ingrediants in there)? Corn on the cob... Oh my am I in for some trouble haha I dont think thats too Crohns friendly what your eating

I graze, meaning I eat as many as 10 times a day perhaps. Been doing it long before Crohns for other reasons, so I don't fit the "sit down-designated meal time" criteria much. I also don't have "breakfast foods" and "dinner foods" in the sense that I don't really classify something as only eaten for breakfast, and vice versa. I'm fine with eggs and a bowl of oatmeal at 11 PM after a workout, or 3 frozen beef burritos for breakfast....

I eat the following:

Bfast: yogurt, granola, banana, hard-boiled egg, coffee and oj (eat the same thing every day)

Lunch: mix it up, but usually a salad or sandwich (turkey, tuna, chickensalad)

Dinner: wide variety as I live in NYC and have lots of takeout options :)

Sadly, I used to be a "foodie" and enjoyed dining out and trying new restaurants. I still do but find that I read menus not savoring new tastes but figuring out which ingredients won't kill me the next day.

Oh I'm in the UK sorry, I get my Elemental and Modulen on prescription here as it's supposed to be my only diet source for the moment. It's good though, totally nutritionally complete and specially formulated for Crohn's sufferers. I think it is sometimes covered by insurance over in the US and Canada, but you'd probably have to check that out with your healthcare provider.

It can also be bought but it is very, very expensive as I gather.

Here is what I typically eat:

- Breakfast: 2 hard boiled Omega 3 eggs, banana, tea with honey, grape juice
- Lunch: Chicken breast or fish filet, boiled veggies (carrots, zuchini, green beans..), boiled rice or boiled potatoe. Soups (vegetable and chicken)
- Dinner: Yoghurt, olives, little cheese, ripe and peeled fruits (melons, peaches, plums, pears, .......) and tea (black, green, herbal)

Varys massively from day to day e.g yesterday :
breakfast:nothing lunch:KFC burger and fries dinner : fruit salad and smoothie .
Today:
Breakfast:nothing Lunch:nothing Dinner : Chicken sandwich on gluten free bread and soup and bread :p
Also I MUST eat sitting down otherwise it just goes straight through lol .
There are plenty of things I cant eat , eggs , cheese , yoghurt , whole meal bread , soft and citrus fruits and processed meats

Breakfast: Key Lime Pie Yogurt

Lunch: Chicken noodle soup broth

Dinner: orange jello, strawberry jello, and two key lime pie yogurts

Basically I've shut down and stopped eating... the yogurt, broth, and jello is my way for forcing calories in

Hi Katiesue,
I hear what you are saying about shutting down, I am currently lactose free and am trying to go gluten free but with all the other don't on the LOFFLEX diet, these rate as some of the easiest to attack for me.
Hope you feel better soon.

We eat mostly organic foods & cook with whole ingredients, and local produce when in season.

Lately....

Breakfast.
I have been drinking 12oz. of fresh veggie juice. Yesterday it was a blend of 8 veggies (kale, spinach, garlic, broccoli, tomatoes, parsley, red bell pepper & celery) today, carrot, beet & ginger. with a egg sammich or egg burrito at work with st. johns wort tea.

Lunch
Usually a hodge podge of leftovers from dinner or bean burritos. with slippery elm root tea & emergen-c

Dinner
this depends...last night grilled sockeye salmon, cous cous with assorted veggies, & fresh green beans sauteed in garlic & olive oil. with home brewed brown ale.
usually something like that.

Breakfast has been my least painful meal as of late. I usually eat 3 poached eggs and a slice of toast. I am scared to eat bacon, ham or sausage so i have been avoiding those meats but I may try a leaner cut of bacon. I am getting into juicing because it feels soothing to my intestines and stomach. I usually will juice up about 2 lbs. of carrots, several apples, a bunch of parsley but i have been avoiding ginger because it throws the taste off for me. I have been reading that an alkalyzing juicing regiment actually helps with lower GI disorders and I can see a small difference already. I am most concerned with learning better things to add to my diet since I need to make vast improvements in that area. I have also been drinking carnation instant breakfasts and will also add boost or ensure here when i can get the energy up to drive in to town.

Does anyone have any good recipe book suggestions for other meals that I might try?

I eat gluten free + dairy free + low sugar - here's examples of my usual diet:
Breakfast: natural brown rice with quinoa + hard boiled egg + Bragg Liquid Aminos [basically wheat free soy sauce] + a sprinkle of green onion tops, and Green Tea with Pomegranate. I have this pretty much every day.
Common Lunches: [1]Veggie salad with fish or grilled chicken, olive oil and lemon/vinegar dressing, [2] homemade veggie type soup + rice , [3] grilled meat/fish + rice + steamed veggies, [one of these] and herbal iced tea.
Dinner: [I eat a lot lighter] - Left over veggies from lunch, or coconut milk yogurt, or baked/boiled small potato + dairy/gluten free Earth Balance margarine...or a glass of V8 juice.
Snacks: rice cake with peanut butter [natural - only peanuts + salt], a banana [if not too ripe] or a tangerine. I drink lots of water and unsweetened tea.

Natgl, I had many of the same questions! I found some sample menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner for Crohns here: http://www.healthline.com/health/crohns-disease/recipes
I also try to get creative with basics I can grow in my garden (I love summer!) I do a lot of veggie stir-fry with things like swiss chard, summer squash, green onions, potatoes, and green beans.
I hope you get into the groove of cooking creatively with Crohn's!

:)
