Found some interesting information on this component of Pineapple. I had read about it before and forgot about it.

I have never used this, and am just putting it out there as an FYI. I like dietary related treatments, and if you like Pineapple, maybe it is capable of helping a little.

This encouraging report prompted researchers at North Carolina’s Duke University to explore bromelain’s effects on an experimental mouse model of inflammatory bowel disease. Animals treated with orally administered bromelain beginning at five weeks of age displayed decreased incidence and severity of spontaneous colitis. Bromelain supplementation also decreased the clinical and histological manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease in animals with existing colitis. The investigators concluded that their findings justified further studies of bromelain in the management of inflammatory bowel disease.14

Interesting read Dan. Thanx.. I immediately bought some fresh pineapple, N ate it. The pain was EXTREME. Should have carefully read the fine print. I forgot to peel the pineapple first... ;-) Seriously, think I'll slowly add pineapple to my diet IF I can get away from the 5-ASA... Currently back down to 3g, and doing fine (at the moment). I wonder if the Bromelain is only in the stem, or just concentrated there....

It says further into the article that Pineapple alone does not have enough in it to have much effect. But, if a person is going to eat anyway, it may as well be something that could help a little. If you keep most of your food beneficial, then it must add up after awhile.

I like Pineapple anyway so I just eat that when I want some fruit.

Dan

Wish I could eat it in the first place, I love it. Unfortunately my Crohns doesn't. It worsens my D. I see the rinds in the toliet later (gross I know).

Ah, nuts (not that we can eat them either).. No one slapped me for the pineapple gag (And I mean 'gag'... a solid 10 on the Linda Lovelace 'gag' meter)...

OK, bad jokes and worst follow-ups aside for the moment. Thought as much that it was all in the stem... guess I'll have to buy another bottle of supplements. I do eat small, tiny portions of pineapple.. homemade 'Hawaian' pizza. Oh, Ham N pineapple to non Canucks. Thought I could do that a little more, maybe get some pineapple juice or juice blends. Back to the drawing bd

You just have to be careful with supplements. Dodged a real bullet on Krill Oil

Are you allergic to Krill oil?

I can see why Kev can't eat much Pineapple since he eats the hide and all. I can't eat a great deal of it either. It is quite acidic. I can eat it in moderation or with something else. It is not something I care to eat a lot of.

I think you have to have your guts in pretty good shape before you can eat it. Just like most other fruit.

Pineapple glaze on ham is one of my favorites. Now I am hungry. Gotta go dig for food now.

Dan

Hey Dan... Those pineapple husks are a bitch to swallow.. ;-) As for the Krill Oil, I AM glad I read the fine print... Krill.. tiny crustaceans.. as in shellfish. as in allergy.

SOOOOOOooooo, folks, IF you are allergic to shellfish, you should avoid Krill Oil too

Far as I know "Hawaiian Pizza" is the same as our term for it, where I come from down here in the US.

Thats pretty crazy! who would have thought that pineapple would do us some good (or maybe not)!!
&& the fact that I LOVE IT! haha
I'll have to experiment tomorrow and see how this works out! anything helps I suppose! :)

btw kev did the husk taste good!? lol! bet that was xtremely hard to digest hahaha!!!

I can drink pineapple juice with no problems. I think it's not as acidic as OG which cuses me heartburn immediately...

Hmmm, American's call it that too? There's a surprise. It's commonly held that, if visiting the US, you order a 'Hawiaan Pizza' it immediately identifies you a canuck.

Well last I checked there weren't Mounties patrolling the beaches near Honolulu.

I've always used that term for THAT pizza and everyone in my "world" knew what I was talking about....hmmm, could be regional, since I'm more Northern than most other Americans, kinda.

Pineapple, as well as oranges, would bother me if I was in a flare, but now they don't.

You think eating the outside brown skin is rough?
You should try eating those pointy pokey green leaves sticking out of the top - now THOSE hurt! I think one of them did some surgery while it was taking the tour of my intestines. Cheap work - but not so accurate.

We call ham - n- pineapple pizza Hawaiian too over here in New York.

Hmmm, while on vacation in Florida, I ordered a hawaiian pizza, and the clerk says "You must be from Canada". I asked if the accent was the giveaway, she said 'No one but Canadians call it that'... Guess I shouldn't make ASSumptions based on a single experience... Maybe everybody but her call them that. I won't poll on it.

But, come to think of it, there's an American based pizza restaurant chain here AND their menus don't call it that... they call it Ham N Pineapple, and they use really thin ham... Time to change the subject, all this talk of food is getting to me

Well, to add Kev before subject change (sorry), our local mom and pop pizza parlor for take out has it as Hawaiian Pizza on the menu...Sounds like the oddball was that Florida resident who'd never heard of it, unless like I said, it's regional, and the south calls it something else.

Yeah me and my dad where ever we are eat pizza and have eaten pizza from all over the world. All the best pizza places in America call it a Hawaiian pizza.
