Husband has had is 4th Remicade infusion total. We were very blissful as thought it had him in remission and was a miracle drug. Until... two weeks ago. He is now flaring again and has had an intermittent fever all week. His doc had him in to get some labs... waiting on what they may show. Here we go again... Seemed like the Rem was working. Although, he had slowly been weaned from the prednisone too. Anyone else, have symptoms come back and flare back up after weaning off the prednisone?
Any feedback would be wonderful.
Thanks!

Sometimes it is the pred keeping things under control until the maintenance med can take over. It can take several Remicade infusions to reach complete efficacy and even after the loading doses the schedule sometimes has to be tweaked or the dose upped.

It may be that Remi just wasn't at the point of completely taking over from the Pred so the taper of pred made his symptoms come back.

I hope the tests give you some answers and he is feeling better soon!

Hope that's the case. A bit concerned about the fevers too. No other symptoms (cold/flu). Doc was also checking for c diff...

Did he have fever with his CD flares before starting treatment? My son would have fever at night when he was flaring. If this is a constant fever I would make sure you let the GI know that it is different than what he normally experiences with a flare.

I've been on remi for years and I still get flares from time to time. But a lot less often than without the medicine.

This is just his 2nd major flare. Yes, fever was with onset of flare and only in the evenings. Fever has passed now, but still flaring terribly.

It's possible his body could have built an immunity to the remicade. If that is the case, there is always Humira which is very similar.

Did they premedicate him with benadryl or zyrtec prior to the infusion? What is his infusion interval?

Sounds just like what is happening to me! I was doing extremely well until I tapered down to 5mg of prednisone two weeks ago at which point I began experiencing high fevers every night and eventually full fledged symptoms :(
My GI had me go back up to 20mg of prednisone (ugh!) in order to taper more slowly and switched me to weekly Humira rather than biweekly.. I'm feeling slightly better but still not as good as before the flare, but hopes are high that that will change.

Anyways, I hope that your husband feels much better soon!!! You are not alone!
