I have just posted on 'my story' the steroids that Im on and im slightly worried as someone asked me if what I was saying was correct.

Can someone clarify that what im on sounds right?

Im taking Budesonide 3mg Capsules, one to be taken 3 times a day, Avoid indigeation remedies, take 30 to 60 mins before food and to be swallowed whole.

My consultant did have me written up for something else but I broke down in the hospital stating that I didnt want to get fat as he confirmed that I would put on a lot of weight! He said that he would put me on these tablets and that he would change the doseage and the amount in a months time.

Im new too all this and very confused, can someone help?

Hi,

Normal dosage is 9mg a day, which is 3 pills. When I was on them i took them all at once. Its a good steroid in that it has much fewer side affects than say predisonone so you should be ok with it.

Take care

They are to be taken all at once, in the morning.
I take 9mg every morning (3 capsules). This is the standard initial dosage and eventually you will taper off.

My dosages have been either 3mg, 6mg, or 9mg (on now), but they've always been all at once in the morning.

I'm on them too. They are also called Entocort. I too take mine altogether in the morning (I think this is partly as they can cause insomnia)
I saw my GP yesterday and was asking him about some of the side effects but he admited that he knew nothing about this medication... :(

Biggest side effect for me has to be mood swings & depression. Look for other threads about this. I've definitely seen this topic come up once or twice on here. The side effects are basically the same as prednisone, but to a lesser extent. I don't gain nearly as much weight, face only has minor acne, no body acne, no heavy breathing... sometimes insomnia, but I always relate it to something else. Who knows. I have hair loss, but it's not chunks.

Hope all that helps <3

My biggest side effect of Entocort has been headaches. I'm talking chronic, morning till night, nonstop throbbing nasty headaches. For a couple of weeks I just put up with the headaches, hoping either they'd stop or I'd get used to them. After a couple of weeks, I couldn't take it anymore so I called my GI, and he put me on Amitriptyline. And the headaches immediately stopped! So if you experience any side effects, do call your doctor (sooner rather than later, don't suffer needlessly like I did).
