Hi everyone,

For those of you who were first put on Budesonide (and perhaps Pentasa) when you were first diagnosed with Crohn's, how long did it take you to start feeling better? I know that everyone's experiences will be different, but I just want to get a sense of what may be normal. I'm not sure when these things are supposed to "kick in," exactly.

I'm almost a week into the medication regiment, and although yesterday seemed to be a step forward and I was feeling pretty good, today seems to be two steps back. Not sure what to think. Any responses or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hiya JDTM
and welcome

I was put on Pentasa & Budesonide back in 2005 when I was dx, I'm still on Pentasa.
I can't remember what happened tho!
But 2 years ago I was put on Pred for nearly a year and had difficulties tapering off it,so I tried the Bud again and it worked. Depending where your CD is, Bud will work within a month at 9mg, then a month at 6mg, then a month at 3mg. Pentasa will help to maintain then, like an aspirin. It's not as harsh as Pred, it's non systemic, only goes to the small bowel, not the whole system like Pred.
Give it some more time, I had success with it and I'm in remission now
good luck
xx

Thanks Joan, I appreciate it. I'm almost glad to hear it doesn't always provide quick relief for everyone (no matter how badly I want it to). I may ask this same question in the Treatment forum and see if I get some more responses. (As a newbie, I'm not sure about proper forum etiquette, so definitely let me know if reposting my question is a faux pas!)
