So lets start with the good news.
My DD Rheumatologist is thrilled :thumright:at how well she is doing on Remicade. 3 months ago she had 17 joints affected by her arthritis but as of this week only one.:dusty:
:yfrown: but............................
he voiced concern over the report from the eye specialist on the building pressure in the right eye.

The eye doc did mention at the last visit that the pressure was up but told me not to worry but he needed to let her Rheumy know. I thought it was strange but he told me not to worry, so I didn't.:yfrown:

The Rheumy said it was borderline and we would be watching the next few eye appointments closely.

So my questions is...........................
If you or your child ever had this happen what were the symptoms and what did they do to treat it?

Did you or your child ever have elevated eye pressure that resolved on its own?

She was on pred for a long time
High eye pressure can be the start of glaucoma which tends to occur from pred.
Or from arthritis since it can affect the eyes

I guess I didn't know about the pred (I'm not surprised) could be a cause.

I need to look up eye diseases. My grandma has glaucoma. I didn't even know kids could get it.:yfrown:

All my children are at increased risk glaucoma as their grandmother went blind from glaucoma in her late 20s.

I know there have been great advances made in glaucoma treatment is recent years and the important thing is to catch it early. There are no symptoms from glaucoma until damage has already been done. A build of pressure is the first sign and careful monitoring is needed.

Sarah has a friend with glaucoma and arthritis.

It depends

Take my kiddo
Humira is used to treat arthritis
But he developed it while on humira
So it wasn't enough by itself.

If she was on remicsde while the pressure was up .....
Also how long since she was off Pred ?

Year and a half was the last big one and since than she's had low dose therapy and a couple burst. Its been a good 4-5 months since she's had any....I think.

Sarah's friend parents called Remicade her miracle drug, she is now 19. It the best treatment she has ever been on.

Remember the treatment have improved in the last 15 years.

Was she on ditropan (bladder med) when she had the eye exam? It can increase intra-ocular (eye) pressure in some people.

No bladder meds. Thankfully she hasn't needed those since starting Remicade. Plus the doc took her off Ditropan because it was causing GI issues.

No advice but sending hugs!
We were told M would need eye exams every 3 months even on very low dose pred, so maybe that's enough to increase eye pressure? Not really sure.

my asthmatic (but not IBD) daughter went through a period of time where her asthma was poorly controlled with multiple bursts of oral pred plus inhaled steroids. She had an eye exam a few months after that and showed increased pressure, which seems to have resolved on its own as of her most recent exam so im guessing there can be some residual?

Farmwife, I know this is a old post. But you said her grandmother has glaucoma. Are there cleft palates in the family as well?

Not on my mother's side.
I know nothing much about my biological father side.

However my cat had one. does that count?

I'm intrigued, why do you asked?

There is a genetic condition in my ex husband family.

Some of the signs of it are:

-glaucoma/eye issues
- cleft palates
- joint issues
- double joins
- early onset Arthritis

It a connective tissue disorder.

We were told when Grace is 8-10 years of age that would would revisit the possibility of EDS for her. The rheumatologist and orthopedic doc want to see if she's losses some of her hyper mobility. I guess most kids do. If she still has it then it might be a possibility. :frown:

My kids haven't been tested. They are 98% sure there father doesn't have Strickler, which would mean they are in the clear. They all have hypermobility issues but we believe that come from my side of family.

The kids in his family are normally dx at birth or prior to.

Eds doesn't present any issues unless it vascular otherwise type iii just means extra bendy
No treatments needed
