Hey,

Anyone have excessive burping - regardless with or without food?

I started having burping a few months before diagnosis. After diagnosis I had an endoscopy to rule out GERD and it did. Docs have no idea what the burping is.

Seems when doing online research burping can be anything = from GERD to stress to Cancer, etc.

The burping can be every 30 seconds frequent to something like 1 every 5 minutes even. But never without it unless I am sleeping.

Tried some over the counter Prilosec and nothing changed either.

Anyone else have burping or got checked out and actually got a response for things to try to reduce this - or another check to see if it is anything serious?

My son had very painful burps his GI said it was acid reflux and prescribed a PPI and Motillium. This plus changing his diet to remove GERD triggers got rid of the burps completely.

He stopped taking the Motileum a month ago and we are now trying to cut back the PPI to ever second day, but the burps are back on days when he doesn't have the PPI.

My son has a lot of burping since diagnosis but not as frequent as you BayArea. He has wondered if some was due to his med (budesonide). His doctor had no answers. Burping is usually from swallowing too much air, a lax gastroesophageal sphincter which lets air come up easily (as in GE reflux), the production of excessive air in the gi tract, and/or difficulty moving the gas out the other end. Hoping you will find something that helps!

I remember prior to diagnosis being on a road trip and having to burp for a quarter of the ride from San Fran to Chicago. These days it doesn't happen too often, but I get incredible urges to burp for a little bit. then it just goes away. It always feels like air is trapped in my gut or down my esophagus and if it don't burp I will be terribly uncomfortable.

Sometimes it just doesn't want to come out one way or the other. Annoying when it happens. Sometimes I will try ginger tea or peppermint drinks/candy which helps clear things up a bit.

I use Gas X on special occasions...especially if I know I am going to be eating/drinking something that may trigger the burps or gas. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't

Thanks all. Will try these out.
I was worried about trying more OTC because i read acid is what we need to help break food down. And with strictures and narrowing and inflammation, we dont want to block acid buildup but rather the opposite.
