'To conclude, this study demonstrates that concentrations of caffeine that are relevant to human consumption consistently suppress production of the proinflammatory cytokine TNF-alpha in human blood and that this effect is mediated by the cyclic AMP/protein kinase A pathway.'

There's a few natural substances that have evidence of anti TNF-A activity, most commonly known is probably curcumin. I was unaware that caffeine had this effect.

Might experiment with alternate delivery methods to avoid intestinal discomfort. Anyone try caffeine patches?

Very interesting. I've always had coffee in the back of my mind as an underlying culprit to my issues. Curious what others think.

Also interesting. I eat dark chocolate every day en lieu of coffee, and it's sat just fine with me. I have had the sensation that it's something I actually need--mostly for my mood and alertness. But this article brings up an interesting possibility to me.

Might be interesting to add that anti-TNF agents often don't work for crohn's disease and are known to paradoxically induce crohn's disease.

Infliximab can induce remission, many others can not.

Etanercept is a very potent anti-TNF inhibitor. But, not only does it not work for crohn's disease, at all, it paradoxically can lead to the development of crohn's disease.

TNF-a is a complex cytokine which interacts with many cells, involving processes we don't fully understand.

OK.

How about I buy empty enteric coated pills (resistant to stomach acid), then fill them with coconut oil and swallow a fuck tonne?

OR, any recommendations what else I could fill them with that might work locally?

I too, would be suspicious at the idea of the health benefit of caffeine especially that in teas, matte or coffee (and definitely not in the red bull types)

But there is a place in Toronto called Chocosol that makes natural dark chocolate unprocessed (not dutch) the traditional mayan way and they used to drink it as a « warrior’s » drink.

I sometimes would get a 100% fully dark chocolate drink and it really felt good. Healthy.

So yeah, maybe look in to getting some actual cocoa. I used to munch on cocoa beans too. Just pure cocoa. And it felt good.

Not sure about the real health value but I know there is some caffeine in it.

Of course, it would be at best a hollistic add on, like herbalism, essential oils, teas, yoga or any other natural remedy, a lot of them help a bit in small amounts but don’t do them INSTEAD of actual treatment. Just as an add on for good health.

That’s my 2 cents on caffeine. (from dark unprocessed chocolate)
