Hi guys,

I was wondering if any of you know which form of Calcium is the best tolerated because I have an incredibly sensitive gut, so I need the most well tolerated form of calcium and in a dose that would stop my osteoporosis ( thanx to Pred) from getting worse. I cannot tolerate Iron, Magnesium, Zinc, Vitamin C and anything acidic.

Kind regards
Michael

Hey!

Well I take Fosamax for osteoporosis and then OsCal 600 with Vitamin D. The Vitamin D is pretty important when taking a calcium supplement because it's helps your body absorb it.

The Fosamax is a women's post-menopausal osteoporosis medicine, but they prescribe it to anyone. Like I'm 18... definitely not post menopausal. And I know of men that have had to take it before. But the Pharmacist always looks at me weird when she realizes that an 18 year old girl is buying 50-60 year old women medicine.

Calcium Help Please !

Thanx Katiesue, I will try and see if I can get some Fosamax, If you thought you get funny looks when you go buy it imagine when they see a man trying to but it :)

My doctors told me to take 3 Oscal 500 + D Chewables per day. They taste fine and they work. My calcium was so low at one point that they were going to hospitalize me.

I have also heard that the bodies optimium amount of calcium that it can absorb at one time is 300mg. Anymore than this and the body actually does not fully absorb the calcium, meaning that you will potentially absorb less than 300mg, even though you ingested more.

So make sure whatever you take is spaced out throughout the day, as 3 pills of a smaller dosage spread out in better than 3 taken all at once.

Thanx Guys,

I will try Calcium Citrate in three 300mg tabs. Maggie-Muffin would you be able to tell me the name of the puffer you take for Calcium sounds very interesting I never heard of a puffer that is used for calcium treatment.
