Hi All-
I recently switched GI's from a peds to an adult one. 2 yrs ago my Peds dr. gave me a calprotectin test and the level was high, so he did a colonoscopy and it was clear. He then Diagnosed me with having IBS.
My new GI gave me another calprotectin test and the levels were high again! He said he doesn't want to do another colonoscopy b/c the other Dr did one and everything looked good. He said he might do the test where you swallow a camera pill.
My real question is... IS IT POSSSIBLE TO HAVE IBS WITH A HIGH CALPROTECTIN LEVEL.

Please help me... I'm so frustrated.:(:ybatty::ymad::confused2:

Hi Aly- Results on this are unclear. I have read every study I can on this as I am working on a diagnosis for my daughter who also has elevated calprotectin and clear scopes. We are getting an MRE (MR Enterography) soon.

Some studies suggest that IBS can cause increased calprotectin levels, but it unlikely that they would be really high. I think you should get the pill cam or an MRE to look for IBD in places that a scope cannot get to. You are in a tough diagnosis phase. Good luck!
