Can anyone help ? After recovering from a bowel resection in March 2010 due to crohn's disease I have not felt well and have chronic pain in my groin and buttocks. After numerous tests and scans I have been told my bowel is clear but keep getting a faecal calprotection result of 214 (average should be 50). Has anyone had a similiar story or give any advice. Many thanks.

I'm wondering how rare calprotectin tests are? My doctor is considering getting this test done if my provider covers it. Are these expensive or even reliable?

My calprotectine is being monitored regularily. It started out at more than 3000. But last time it was around 500. The goal of my doc is to get it down to under 200.

In a healthy person the level is supposed to be 50. But he says that they consider under 200 a "healthy" chrons patient...

thanks

Thanks for the replies, it makes such a difference to hear of other
peoples experiences too. So pleased to hear your test results are
reducing.

I have been told the Calprotectin test is not too expensive and is now
preferred rather than the invasive, expensive and time consuming colonoscopy etc. Have also seen them selling online.

Bad news is I'm in alot more pain again, tum swelling and nausea. (toilet
ok though ??) so have been put back on steriods, sob, but they are helping so will put up with their nasty side effects, yuk.

Take care
Shell
