I am afraid I may be having a blockage, am home alone, and am scared. Can anyone tell me what it feels like? I feel nausaus and feel like I need to throw up-but I did just drink a ton of water. I am just feeling so awful right now, so if anyone knows what this feels like please let me know. Thanks so much!

Hi Spring Sun,

I can understand why you are concerned if you are thinking of blockage and need to have your very real worries eased.

If you are unwell you really need to go to a doc and get checked out, especially if you are unable to eat or can only keep water down. They diagnose by combining examination, tests and what you tell them about your medical history, which are aspects none of us can do - sorry.

There are so many aspects to IBD that it would be unfair to suggest "could or might be" wrong with you when not medically qualified in this field.

I see this is your first post. Hope you go and get checked out and feel better soon. Let us know how you get on and when feeling better why not tell us a bit about yourself on the "your story" threads.

Thinking of you

Could very well be a blockage from a stricture. As Jan already mentioned, there is no way to know without specific tests. I am not the biggest fan of doctors, but in this case you have no choice but to have the tests done and find out the cause.

A gastroenterologist is your best bet, if you have that option available.

I agree. go to the ER, or see a doctor ASAP. When you write "am home alone", does that mean you are young? A child perhaps? Or just that you have no one to turn to for help getting to a doctors office? It's hard to tell from what you wrote just what your circumstances are. Drinking plenty of fluids is important anytime, but one rule of thumb I use personally is that nothing goes in until something comes out when I am in the midst of a bout of constipation, or think I may be impacted or blocked up there.
When that happens, I have used very mild stool softeners to correct the situation.. But that is my case, and everyone is different... and I'm in no position to offer you medical advice.. That is what doctors are for. Anyway, get to a doctor, and let us know how you make out..

Thanks everyone. Sorry for the concern. I stayed up for awhile and started to feel better just laying there, not moving. It is morning now and I am fine. Obviously I just got pretty scared. So much is going on in my body right now. My doctor is trying to supress my symptoms with vicodin until I go on remicade, so I can't even "feel" what is going on inside me. I appreciate the help. I will post in the "your story" forum now. Thanks everyone!
