Hi all,

It has been over 4 months at the gym and I'm going on a daily basis. (maybe I'm trying to resist the fact that I'm sick)

However, my muscles are in good shape BUT I didn't gained any weight ! I know CD causes weight loss.

My question simply is:
Is it considered safe for CD patient to take bodybuilding supplements? (such as proteins etc..)

I always did and look how I ended up! Just kidding, I don't know if they really help, but I never noticed a problem from drinking protein powder drinks, etc.

I knew of a few members on here who used to take protein drinks. It's important to take in proteins as they are the building blocks of our body, but I would be careful of the source and how the powder or supplement is made. I would try to avoid any extra chemicals or fillers that may be put in the supplments. Powders are more just trial and error. I bet if you did a search on the board you'll find a thread about one of the members who had asked for a reccomendation. Hope this helps :)

Thanks you. I should search then to find it out.

I take lots of protein supplements and do fine with them. They are just food that has been refined a little to have just the protein.
The thing I couldnt handle was all the additives in the mainstream commercially available protein powders. Things like aspartame and sucralose etc didnt do well with me. Neither does whey as its just a by product of cheese, so basically milk.

No one should be consuming those chemical sweeteners, or dairy products, but thats another thread.

Anyway I get pure whole egg protein from trueprotein.com Great site you can get any type of protein you want (egg, whey, beef, hemp, rice, etc) and add in any type of other supplements you like (creatine, glutamine, etc) and then add a sweetener. I use stevia for a sweetener.

No, nothing in particular. I would take any protien powder that looked good - chocolate flavor! I was doing pretty well lifting weights for a while, but then my Crohn's just got too bad in the last few years.

Now that I am in total remission after my last surgery, I've just been running and loving it.

I use protein shakes after I lift and do fairly well with them. I try to stick to an isolate, rather than a concentrate and that helps.
The one thing I do notice is the artificial sweeteners in it tend to bloat me and cause gas issues.
