I want to use Appetite Control Capsules to help me lose weight. I'm not sure if it is ok to use it with my Crohns Disease.

'Boots Pharmaceuticals Appetite Control - 60 capsules' is the one I want to use.

Why does it say on the information not to use if you have a gastrointestinal disorder?

Has anyone else got experience with these weight loss supplements?

I think this will be the best for me as I cannot control my cravings and meal portion sizes.

Having had Crohns for 35 years, I can't imagine taking what you are suggesting. It will absolutely aggravate your Crohns in my opinion. You want to slow things down (usually), not speed them up.

Why do you have a weight problem with Crohns?

I wonder about taking something like that as well. When I am not flaring, I put on weight very quickly and always have. When I flare I lose like everyone else, but I don't want to have to be going through a painful flare to look better. I would like to feel and look good.

Are you on Prednisone or other meds? Just curious as you are saying you can't control cravings and portions. Meds have that affect on people and Prednisone is really bad for that! If this is the case and it's an issue then raise these concerns with you DR instead of trying to do this in an unhealthy way that could cause you more issues in the end. Diet pills and drugs are not the way to lose weight at all especially if you have a serious condition!
I know with my Crohns, eating big portions and giving into cravings is NOT a good idea. It makes me feel ill and causes pain. Just not worth it. Yes I do allow myself treats on special occasions but limiting is definitely key for me.
I would NOT take those capsules!!

I used to be on steroids frequently and now since I had surgery I'm better and in remission I am overweight and it's affecting my health.

I know people with Crohn's are usually a healthy weight, but I'm not.

I didn't ask for shit advice...

DM96 I'm very sorry if you feel that people were being rude to you. We're all here for you.

I haven't taken weight loss supplements myself but certain medications can increase your chance of gastrointestinal bleeding like NSAIDs etc. So maybe that's why it suggests to not take it if you have a gastrointestinal disorder or maybe it has side effects like diarrhea which isn't ideal when you have IBD.

I'd talk to your doctor about what they may be able to recommend. Depending on how overweight you are they may be able to suggest something that will work better for you. I know that afidz has had some weight issues and saw her doctor and a nutritionist to help her lose weight before she goes through another surgery (so she can heal better/faster and reduce the risk of complications). Seeing a dietitian is more helpful than a nutritionist in my opinion though as they will likely know more about your medical condition and will be able to give better suggestions than a nutritionist as far as diet and supplements go.

Rmira - Not everyone who has Crohn's disease is underweight or at a regular weight especially once you're in remission.

I am planning to see my doctor about weight management help. I am on steriods, but not prednisone. I'm on Entocort, and I don't think it makes me gain weight. I am not able to exercise like I used to, because I get muscle cramps really bad when I flex my muscles. I don't overeat at all. I eat very small portions since my diagnosis. I have never been able to eat much. My family has accused me of being anorexic because of the small portions I eat. My family is all overweight, so they are used to us all eating too much. I gain weight if I eat nothing and don't workout. I am trying to find a way to fix this, but the only times my weight has been where I wanted it, was when I was in a major flair. After my diagnosis in 2010, I gained some weight, but only up to a healthy weight, and I loved it. After some time passed, maybe 2 years or so, I started gaining again and got me to 30lbs overweight. I lost 15 during my last flair a couple of months ago, but it's starting to come back on now. I just want to be able to keep it down.

Lstewart, how long have you been on Entocort and what dose? When taken long term it is possible to start seeing similar side effects that Prednisone can cause. I wonder if maybe some physical therapy would help you bring back some strength and will also help with any aching joints. Plus it gets you moving a bit without putting too much strain on your body and may even help with a little weight loss. Just a suggestion if it's a possibility.

After my resection, I was told to eat smaller portions but more often.

Hey DM.. When I was diagnosed I was a pretty healthy weight, then they put me on entocort for 6 months.. I gained somewhere near 50-60 lbs.. I have been overweight since.. I also had a baby in 2014 so had extra weight from that. So don't feel bad not everyone with crohns is super skinny. I recently went to a top Crohns specialist and they said they are seeing more and more overweight crohns patients.. Most food that is unhealthy for us is easier to eat, thus we gain weight and are more malnourished. So I hope that helps with that part..

With the other part.. I would just ask your GI, they are the dr and hopefully would know. I started trying to lose weight in the last bit, I'm also in a flare which helps, but I basically have gone to just eating the basics.. I eat greek yogurt and fruit in the morning, eggs and toast for lunch and a chicken breast or salmon filet with some sort of cooked veggie... I try to get at least 8000 steps in a day. I've been losing weight pretty steadily doing this.. That doesn't help with your cravings and such, but I hope a little positive advice helps :)
