So, I went to the optometrist today. I knew things were blurry, but not that much. I need to have REGULAR eye tests with the crohns, because he said with my short sightedness, if not corrected, eyes can shrink??????
The first line I was supposed to read, I couldn't even see at all, and he told me I'm supposed to, to be able to drive. I can't believe the diff the pair of contacts he gave me, make. Usually I don't even try to read anything meters away (except if I have to like street names, etc), and I squint normally. He asked how they feel (these, I guess 20,20 lenses he had me wear for a minute(, and I just can't believe how clear.
He said something about pressure due to prednisone, and I asked wether that will correct itself when I wean, and he said yes, which made me really happy because of the side effects as is with steroid headaches, I think straining my eyes was prob not helping.

So, all in all, I'm really pleased, and will deff be going at least once a year, so they hopefully won't need to give me big thick lenses if I don't wear glasses/contacts now. Tried a few pairs of glasses and they will take time to get used to again, even though Iv had glasses before, I never wore them regularly. So I want to take better care of my eyes. :)

I have no doubt that IBD can affect the eyes. I get a yearly eye exam and have done so for long before I became ill. My eyes gradually got worse every year (it seemed to alternate - one year the left would get a bit worse, then the next year the right eye would get a bit worse, and so on). After I became ill with IBD, and was put on steroids, suddenly both eyes became a bit better and have stayed there! I'm not sure if it's the illness or if the steroids played a part too, but at any rate it seems like too big of a coincidence that both eyes spontaneously got a bit better after an established pattern of getting slowly worse.

Enjoy your newfound clear vision! :)

So THAT'S why I'm now long sighted with a slight stigmatism instead of mildly short sighted like I've been my whole life! Crohn's Disease strikes again.
