Hi

Well, this is a little new to me but so is Crohns, my boyfriend came across the forum and suggested I look into it as a means of getting more info on my new 'friend' in life.
I have recently been diagnosed with Crohns after a 2 year battle with cancer so whilst not quite a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire I do feel pretty down right now :-(
I have to say this forum has proven (so far) to be a gem.....many thoughts, worries and concerns that I have had, I have found the answer to or at least some guidance on here, so thanks to one and all.
The difficult thing is that Crohns is different for everyone and what works for one person does not necessarily work for another...finding foods I can eat and enjoy is tough, dealing with the discomfort and sometimes 'embarrassing' moments is something I need to get used to...when I had cancer they gave me plenty of morphine.....and as much as it might help my current condition the Dr's are less forthcoming.....strange!! :0-)
Anyway, wanted to say hello and assure people I am not always grumpy, just today!!! Now I am off in search of the wine and a hug......

Hello Clair and welcome to the fourm!:)

You have reason to be grumpy after being handed what must seem like the 'double whamy'.

Since you have been reading in here, I'm glad you noticed that Crohn's is
different from patient to patient.
Especially when it comes to meds and diet...
and a lot of it is trial and error.

Any questions? Ask away...
A need to vent? Vent away...someone is always around to listen
and hopefully help..even if it is just by listening.

Oh and the wine? Try the Lounge. :ylol2:

Once again, welcome!
Healing hugs~Nancy

Best of luck. Keep a food journal of everything you eat and I mean even if it is a cracker write it down. The more knowledge you gain early hte better it is for you because you can help your doctor find the best treatment for you. I know what it feels like.

Good luck

I've heard different stories about GI Dr.'s being willing, or less than willing, to prescribe painkillers. My Dr. has prescribed more than I need. But I've been in the hospital 14 out of the last 30 days.

If you really need them, you should be sure the Dr. knows how much pain you're in and you might even have to tell him you need some kind of relief. It's a bad habit to get into, though, and most Crohnies that I've read about try to avoid painkillers unless it's really bad. They also can cause constipation and abdominal discomfort.

BTW, welcome to the forum!

Yeah for me I will not even take ibuprofin for anything. I personally do not want any of that stuff in my system and I feel the less I have of pain relief the better I will feel in the long run even though my immediate pain may be very bad.

Hi clair, welcome to the forum.. I really like your description of this place as a 'gem'. I found it such a treasure trove.. As for venting, this is the place. Whether you need a shoulder to cry on, or just a place to give voice to your own inner thoughts. A double whammy... cancer, then crohns. When I was 7, my mom was diagnosed with it and given 6 months. Only time I ever saw my father cry. This past april she celebrated her 83rd birthday. Still going strong. Just goes to show, life isn't predictable, even by those superior doctors in their white coats. Anyway, all the best and welcome. Oh, and as for those doctors, sometimes I think they lose track of the pain we go thru, but I temper that with a belief that pain meds aren't given freely because they can mask very serious conditions like ruptures, strictures, etc., or simply worsen cases of constipation

Welcome to the community Clair,

First off, kudos to your boyfriend! It really is sad to hear what you have had to deal with, but if your post is how you act when you are grumpy than it is obvious that you are really a kind person. Thank you also for the kind words about the forum. I am really happy that we can both be apart of it.

thank you :)

Thanks all for the kind responses, probably should clarify that I was joking about the morphine, the pain really is not so bad....it's just amazing how freely they gave it to me before, now a hot pack and a cuddle seem to work wonders :)
The food diary is something that I have started and whilst I shock myself with the sheer amount I can consume (boredom...and man being away does not help!) I can also begin to see some foods that are 'triggers' for the discomfort....so am avoiding them.
I am a happy person and have decided to accept chrons as a part of my life it is simply something that I will have to get used to.
Determination and a positive outlook helped me with Cancer and will certainly help me with this.

Regards to you all

Clair
