Any experience with shortness of breath? I've had iron infusions over the last few months to combat anemia related to crohns. I'm 33 years old and have enjoyed running a half marathon just two years ago and now I can hardly walk half a mile. I've been on humira for about two years since my small bowel resection and I just stopped taking it because I feel aweful and my feet and ankles are so swollen. I've started the GAPS diet for me and my autistic son and I don't think this is diet related.
Sorry to throw it all out there.

any thoughts? I feel like I don't have much time left on earth--when I can't breath well and that''s now all the time.

Help?

Just hoping someone will tell me this is just a side effect of Humira and it will go away soon.

I've been experiencing shortness of breath the last 6 months or so, have been on Humira two and a half years. It's usually worst when I go to bed at night or exercise.

I did go into the walk in clinic and had a lab done. I received a call from the on call doctor to go to the ER. Spent the night and today getting blood trasfusions. I don't understand how I could be so anemic since I just finished a series of iron infusions.
Sadly, I've been passed off to a specialist 2.5 hours away.

I'm wondering is a liquid diet would be good. My GI said it probably would not be worth it but this is getting scary.

Hi, I'm glad you saw a doc and got the right treatment for now. EN works best for small bowel/upper gi crohns as a treatment and strictures for reduced pain and risk of obstructiuon. EN has helped me to a degree in it has stopped further weight loss as I could not eat due to pain and vomiting due to active small bowel and gastroduodenal crohn's - though this for me has meant a nasojejunal tube since november to bypass the stomach etc.

The thing that has helped me most I would say is pred and humira.

Hope your GI sorts out a treatment plan soon for you.

For me not being able to breath took me years and the doctors never knew what was going on. It got so bad on Humira that I was in the hospital all summer long. For me it is crohns or inflammation right at the end of my stomach which produces gas and a hetal hernia and it pushes up on my lungs and vegus nerve.
It gets so bad that I feel like im just going to pass out and die and it happened today:(
Since crohns is an infection, Humira could make it worse if the inflammation doesnt go down.
The gaps diet and the SCD diet produce a feeling like it in me in the same spot
where I get short of breath, but its a little different and after a few days it goes away like it was a die off, then after a few days I get bad gas pains in my lower colon after a few days on that diet it goes away they I take the hugest perfect poops in the world, and feel 100% good.
Sadly this diet is not working for me anymore and Im still getting the out of breath like I did before. If it happens again try tums and see if you feel or hear food move through the stomach and if your breathing problems go away for a while, and if it works tums is not the answer to fixing it.
