Sodas (soft drinks) make the perianal (fistula) drain more. Trying to determine if it is the carbonation, sugar or caffiene. Has anyone else had this intolerance?

I was drinking a lot of caffeine around the time I was first diagnosed. I think the caffeine aggravated my Crohns a great deal.

There are also several additives and chemical preservatives in Sodas, not to mention in the HFCS that goes into it, which will cause inflammation in the intestinal tract. If you want to drink sodas, make your own with mineral water, use dates to sweeten, and only organic natural ingredients, like mint. If you want to make a cola, its pretty easy except caramel is burnt sugar. I've made lots of delicious sodas from natural ingredients, though in the end apart from summer i mostly drink herbal teas.

There are generally benzoate added to fizzy soda which definately aggravate oral crohns so as oral crohns and perianal disease often go hand in hand - it could be the benzoate

My girl can't have pop because of her bladder.
She can have juice just fine but apparently the carbonation dies her in.
