Hi everyone,

Just asking a question, for those who have joint issues or arthritis, what seems to set off sore joints or swollen joint?

I have arthritis in both hips - not sure what type of arthritis, one doctor said osteo and another said inflammatory. For me, high-impact exercise can put me in a lot of pain - jogging is a no-no and sometimes even a fast walk can bring on some pain. Low-impact exercise like bicycling is fine, though. Cold weather is the other thing that can put me in pain, if it's bitterly cold out or snowing a lot then I usually end up having hip pain. Even if it's not snowing yet - like, I remember a few years ago, a blizzard was on the way, and my hips started hurting several hours before the snow even started. In the past sometimes a heavy rain would also put my hips in pain, but lately that doesn't seem to be the case (which is good, because we've had a ton of rain lately). So yeah, for me it's mainly weather-related and high-impact exercise.

What do you tKe for the arthritis? Do you see a specialist? What do you take for pain?

I usually just deal with the pain. I do have a TENS unit and a heating pad, I'll sometimes use those if my hips are bad. At one point I went to physical therapy, and the exercises that they gave me were very helpful, so I try to make sure to keep up with doing my exercises for my hips. I saw a rheumatologist at one point, but he was terrible so I stopped seeing him and haven't yet gone to a new one.

I find heat makes mine worse, I have to apply ice a few times per day when it's painful.

For me it's food and weather related. if I eat too many carbs or sweets it set's me off.
Aso the other day we had rain storms and I was fine few days before it. Then before the rain hit like there was more moisture in the air I woke up at 2am feeling like I got hit by a bus. Then was in a pain and discomfort for a few days later.
