Hello everyone,

So I've been looking for a high CBD strain oil for my wife to try for her Crohns. I've recently been able to pick up a 1 fluid ounce bottle of Charlotte's Web oil made by the Stanley Brothers and the Realm of Caring in Colorado.

Recently, the strain was classified as a Hemp oil due to its very low THC content, which makes it 50 state legal to buy and ship across state lines. The bottle I bought cost $100.

We are both a bit anxious and admittedly skeptical that it will work in providing significant relief for her since every other treatment(Remicade, Humira, 6mp, Prednisone, etc.) has failed in providing relief or inducing remission. So this is a big step for us in hoping that this strain will work.

It's been about a year since she stopped taking the prescribed meds. Her usual routine now is to either put up with the pain and lay on the couch, or take some hydrocodon to dull the pain, which is sometimes no help at all.

So, I am creating this log as a sort of information for anyone else who's curious about this specific strain and it's effect on Crohns.

I will report back in a few days time with first results and will continue to update daily until we either run out of the bottle or conclude that it is ineffective in her case.

Good luck. I wish I had more experience with this. I am currently looking into CBD oil treatment and would love to see how it works for your wife. Please leave updates!

Thanks and Best of Luck!

Pre-Update: The introduction of the Charlottes Web oil will begin tomorrow night. We are going to being doing staggered doses of the oil in daily amounts of 250mg. Delivery method will be oral ingestion via edible gelatin pill capsules.
A single 50mg dose will be taken around noon every day, and a single 200mg dose will be taken at night prior to going to sleep. This will allow the parasympathetic digestion process to digest and hopefully process the oil more efficiently.
Increasing the dosage may occur down the road if necessary, and will be documented here if any changes arise.

Condition/symptoms noted within the past month(prior to using CBD Oil): sharp pains, frequent bathroom visits, insomnia, nausea, some vomiting, and light headedness.

The sharp pains were hesitantly dealt with by taking hydrocodone for pain, though used sparsely unless the pain reached the point of being unbearable.

Update One: Introduction of Charlotte's Web

Today we began using the CBD oil. The first dose was around 5pm at 200mg via a gelatin capsule. No noticeable changes noted. We are not suspecting this to instantly relieve symptoms, and are taking a cautious yet optimistic approach.
The night dose was increased to around 400mg in order to give enough for her to absorb during the night while she sleeps. This was ingested around 130am.
Not sure if taking the 400mg night dose so late will affect her positively or negatively. Results will be observed tomorrow and posted tomorrow night.

Very interested! Especially since it's now classed as hemp oil, that means more of us will be able to access it. Good luck and keep updating!

Update Two

So today we woke up around 7:00am after going to bed around 2:00am. When she woke up, she was obviously still very tired, but mentioned that she slept very well. From there we ended up going on a 400 mile trip to the next state over. With traffic and us pulling a trailer thrive a large city, stress was moderate. We were not able to get the mid day dose being as how we left the CBD Oil at the house. Not quite ready to take it out of the house yet. We got back home and she had a 400mg dose. She has mentioned that she feels a "tingly sensation" in her head about 10 to 15 minutes after taking the gelatin capsule filled with the CBD oil. We are using size "0" gelatin capsules.
As a test, we filled one of the capsules with salt and dropped it into a warm glass of water to observe how long it takes for the contents of the capsule to enter the water. It takes around 3 minutes and 30 seconds for the capsule to begin "leaking".

She is also experiencing allergies from the weather changes and has frequent headaches. These issues were present prior to the introduction of Charlotte's Web.

Stomach pain levels remain around the same as the previous week. We will update more tomorrow night after the mid day and night dose.

I just ordered the CBD oil from Haleigh's Hope for my daughter with Crohn's which is the only place I would trust to be legit online. It is run by Jason Cranford...so many articles online about everything he is doing to help people. Here is the website if you want to check it out.

Update Three

So far, she seems to be sleeping better with a "fuller" nights sleep. We missed the mid day dose again but did get the night dose. No noticeable changes, stomach has still been upset and pain levels have remained about the same with little to no reduction. Tonight's dose was a full capsule, which should be near 400 to 450mg. Another update tomorrow night. Pic is the full gelatin capsule

Update Four

Still no noticeable reduction in stomach pain, but she says she has noticed she is getting plenty more sleep than before. Usually when I come home for lunch she is already awake. Today, when I got home, she was still knocked out. It seems as if she's catching up on all the sleep she's lost.
Tonight she took another 400mg capsule. More updates tomorrow night

Update Five and Six

I forgot to update this last night, my apologies for anyone who was looking for one last night. Anyways, she doesn't notice any reduction in pain from the capsule she took from Update Four. She also didn't sleep well but that was due to some bad food we got from Sonic, as we both woke up not feeling well.
Today she took a 400mg capsule around 4pm and another 400mg capsule around 11pm. There's still not a noticeable reduction in pain levels and sharp pains are still present. We are hoping that it is just taking awhile to make a positive turn and that she'll start feeling the effects soon. With today's total of 800mg in her, hopefully she'll sleep well and notice a good change tomorrow. As before, I will update more tomorrow night.

Update Seven

Continuing to see no improvement to pain suppression. Only upside so far is that she seems to be sleeping better. She took another 400mg capsule tonight around 12am. Will update tomorrow night..

Updates 8, 9, and 10..

Sorry to report that other than the better sleep shes been getting, there has still been no reduction in pain levels and she still has frequent bathroom visits..

More updates. We have continued to take the Charlottes Web every night with the same results of no pain reduction but an increased and fuller sleep. This past weekend we decided to try 800mg by taking two full gel capsules on Saturday night. It yielded the sand results as before with the 400mg capsules. I'm starting to think that the Mint addative/ taste enhancer may be an inhibiting factor with the medicine.

I actually purchased a very similar bottle.
The Charlotte's Web Hem Extract 500 MG of CBD with Mint chocolate flavour.

I've been taking it under my tongue every morning and night for the past few days. Hard to know how much to take since there's no instructions but I think i'm getting around 5 MG of CBD per dose, so 10 MG per day.

I don't have any symptoms yet so it's hard to justify if it's doing anything, but I thought it would be worth a try to see if it can reduce the inflammation before committing to a long-term medication

My apologies for not updating this like I had originally set out to do. She has been continuing to take a 400mg capsule before bed every night with no reduction in pain. I am leaning more towards the mint additive being an unnecessary ingredient and may be inhibiting some of the full effects of the CBD. I'm not sure, since I have absolutely zero proof that it might be the case. We will continue to use the bottle until it runs out, at which point we are going to move onto the Haleighs Hope strain as that it the strain that Coltyn Turner is using and seems to be working very, very well.

I don't think anyone recommends not taking prescribed medications and to only do medical marijuana.....I'm not surprised that only taking mm is not having much of an effect

Thanks for the updates. I've been wondering about using the same stuff. I just wasn't sure how much good it would do.

My daughter is ONLY taking the Haleigh's Hope oil and smoking to get more THC and is on no other meds and is doing amazing!!!

Hey everyone. My apologies for not updating this as I said I would do when I started out. The Charlottes web strain only seems to help her sleep better, but has no effect on reducing pain or bowel movements. It may be due to the fact that it is only CBD that she is taking, and the lack of THC may be a contributing factor. We have decided to try the Haleighs Hope strain next with the addition of Cannatol. I hope that if anyone else tries Charlottes Web, that you have better luck, but as we all know, everyones Crohns/IBD is different.

Thanks for the update. I have some Charlotte's Web oil on the way, and I'm hoping to get some MMJ over the weekend that I can make into a tincture and blend the 2 together for some help. Back a while ago I was able to source some high CBD MMJ that I made a tincture out of, and it really helped. My source got "busted" for having too many patients, so that good luck went bye-bye...BOO!

Let's hope this blend helps!!!

Yes, indeed, so different for everyone. I'm new to the forum and just now catching up. I'm curious how she's doing now? I wonder if relief is after continued use? Another thought that came to mind is diet and wondered if there were any contributing factors there (I eat almost anything, but chocolate, red wine, broccoli and kale are no-no's for me).

What % thc would be considered "very low"? If you are looking for pain relief, cbd alone will not do it (in my experience). For managing my pain (which is usual only mild-moderate) I smoke high thc strains with very little cbd, which provides instant relief from pain and diarrhea.

Cbd is good as a mild anti inflammatory, but you won't get the full pain relieving effects without thc (which also, unfortunately for some, doesn't come without a high).

Studies have proven the entourage effect with CBD and THC together for better healing. Myself I don't get pain and haven't had any major pain in almost a year now, but I still get diarrhea on the regular. That being said I plan on getting CBD oil to hold me over until my state passes something better than a feel good law (CBD only law)...

At Sarh, if your lucky and live in a state that you can get marijuana then I'm sure you could go to a dispensary and find a low THC strain, even edibles might be an option. I would ask the place of business and see and just ask around.

As an update, my wife is still in lots of pain. Her weight has been up and down, still has cramps, and of course stomach running off.. luckily she hasn't had a huge flare this year, but she still has trouble sleeping and often times struggles to get out of bed. I'm deployed again so I have friends and coworkers who help her out with stuff that I obviously cant. We haven't tried Haleighs Hope yet, but its on our to do list. The main obstacles we face with the THC is that since I'm active duty military, if I buy anything that contains it, its a federal offense, and I go away for a long time. And also since we live in Georgia, not a lot of places will accept a job application if you tell them youre on MMJ, or if THC pops up in a drug test for that matter.. That's why were really hoping to get stationed in Colorado, since I'm sure she'd be able to have tons more access to the strains she needs, and possibly get a job somewhere that accepts people who are on MMJ

I smoke high thc strains by choice. I've been smoking for many years and am just starting to venture into the world of marijuana as a medicine. I'm in Canada and recently registered with a licensed producer. They have a 0 thc high cbd strain that I am interested in trying for using at work or mixing with a high thc strain for both of the benefits. I am interested to see what cbd on its own can do for pain during times when being high is not practical, such as at work.

It's unfortunate that she is not able to get what she needs to help deal with the pain. The sad reality is I bet they would have no problem prescribing narcotics for her, but marijuana is just too "bad" of a drug right?

I can't believe there is so much discrimination over medical marijuana over there. Why is it even necessary to tell employers this information?

Look, online CBD sales are usually scams for one thing. CBD does remain a Schedule 1 drug with the feds. Even in MMJ legal states like where I live there are big companies that sell total crap. One example is Dixie Elixers. I hate to say it, but your best bet is to go in person to an MMJ legal state to find a good product. There are good CBD products out there, but almost ALL contain THC as well. The strains with the highest CBD/THC ratios are about 24:1. In face, CBD is reputed to work better with at least some THC in the mix. You might consult projectcbd.org for more information.

I searched and found this, https://www.georgiacannabis.org/obtain-medical-marijuana/. Wow,Georgia's laws are pretty harsh. Good news is that you CAN legally obtain MM in your state, but only as oil. It can contain no more than 5% THC, and you have to obtain it from another state where it's production is legal. Lots of hoops to jump through, but your health is worth it. My experience has been that a ratio of 2:1 CBD:THC works best for me., So 10% CBD to 5% THC would be legal for your wife to possess, if I'm reading it right. Like kloforn says, some THC seems to make the CBD work better, and in my opinion, the only place to buy is from a licenced producer who labels the THC and CBD content. Maybe someone else can help out with a producer in the US, all I know about is Canadian ones I get my oil from mettrum.com, but unfortunately they don't ship to the states. But you could see what's available and an example of how it's labeled.

Also bear in mind that the bioavailability of CBD delivered orally is about 15%. Delivered as inhaled vapor it is much higher. The boiling point of CBD, according to my Merck Manual, is 187-190 degrees C. I set my vaporizer for just over 190 for the first round, and then increase to just over 200.

Unfortunately, in the state where taboohope (very appropriate name given your situation) lives it's oil or nothing. Still that's very good info, can you give me a link to where you got it? I'm trying to educate myself. Don't want to hijack the thread, just curious.
I notice the bottle says 500 ,30 ml of oil, is that 500mg of CBD in 30ml? That's just over 16mg/ml if I'm reading it right. Or is it 500mg/ml? I need about 150-200 mg of CBD oil and at least 20mg of THC to get relief from my symptoms, and get best results from 75mg of THC. I split the dose and take the THC at night so I'm not high during the day, and it helps me sleep as the CBD tends to keep me awake. so, my experience is that a 2:1 ratio of CBD to THC is what works best for me. Some people need more ,some less.
My question is, what dose is your wife taking, and is it enough? Also I'm wondering if your wife got her license from the state of Georgia, AND you could find a producer of 5% THC/10%CBD, AND the bottle of prescription was in HER name, would you then be OK with the military? Wow, that's a lot of ands! Here's hoping you can wrangle a transfer to Colorado or Cali.

It's going to be 500 mg per bottle, IF it's legit. Last I knew the wholesale price of CBD exceeded that of THC by a substantial margin. That was over a year ago, though, and the market can change a lot in a year.

With the Haleighs Hope Act in Georgia, my wife can get the license or MMJ card since they classed Crohns as a qualifying condition. However, and this is what sucks about being in Georgia, there are major hurdles that you have to go through before you get the card and then more after words..

For instance, Georgia is very conservative, and the doctors are even more so. Trying to find a doctor who'd be willing to sign off and endorse the use of MMJ is very tricky. In order to get the MMJ card, a licensed doctor in good standing has to register him/her self and the user on a website (https://dph.georgia.gov/low-thc-oil-faq-general-public). From there it goes to a board who will evaluate the waiver form and the applicants medical records to see whether or not you even get the card.

If you get approved, you get notified by a public health official on where and when you can pick up your MMJ card, and you bring $25 to pay for it. Now, even though you now have a card, it does not give you permission to purchase MMJ. It only allows the possession of up to 20 fluid ounces of low THC oil by qualified persons. It does not make the sale or possession of all types of marijuana legal in Georgia. Possession of any form of marijuana by an unauthorized person is and remains a violation of state and federal law. So that means that we would have to travel to a different state that does sell it, and we'd probably have to fall in compliance with their laws, if we qualify, and buy it there, and then bring it back to Georgia. Downfall about that is that as soon as we bring it to Georgia, it becomes a federal trafficking offense.. which for someone in the military isn't a viable alternative.

Among my associates it's been said, "Better to be a live criminal than a corpse in compliance." States enacted so-called "CBD Only" laws in order to cut into support for wider legalization and decriminalization efforts. It was not done with the benefit of patients in mind, but to largely preserve the status quo. They'd rather have you die than approve of cannabis, medicinal or otherwise.

As someone who's having their own fight with bureaucratic bullsh*t about MM, I feel for ya bud, but what I want to talk about is dosage. How many caps a day is she taking? You show a pic of a #3 gel cap, that's only 0.5 ml! (I had some kicking around so I measured.) At 500mg/ bottle and 30 ml of oil, that's just shy of 17mg/ml, so one gel cap at 0.5ml is about 8.5mg of CBD, not 450mg as you stated. I think you need at least 150mg of CBD a day to be effective, that's about a third of a bottle, IF as klofkorn mentioned, it's actually got the CBD content it claims. But if it's from a reputable producer it should. I know metric can be confusing if you are used to thinking in ounces, so I thought I'd mention it.

They are Size "0" Gelatin Caps as stated in Update Two of the thread. Dosage was 400mg at a nightly dosage before bed.

"We are using size "0" gelatin capsules.
As a test, we filled one of the capsules with salt and dropped it into a warm glass of water to observe how long it takes for the contents of the capsule to enter the water. It takes around 3 minutes and 30 seconds for the capsule to begin "leaking"."

I just re-read what you had posted closer and looked up a picture of the bottle. It seems that perhaps the label on the bag of gel caps I got was capable of holding 500mg TOTAL, as in all the caps were filled to capacity. Perhaps we in fact weren't taking the correct amount after all, which would be in fact my error.

Thinking back to the origins of the thread and with your little investigation, it seems that if she was getting better sleep with only 8.5mg of oil, then it is possible that if she got the true amount of what she needs, maybe it will actually have a possible positive effect?

Here I thought that the stuff just didn't work with her, but maybe it was just my error that was in the way. Thank you mawg, I will see if I can re-attack this when I return home again

OK, so the bottle says 30ml,and 500mg total in the bottle, why not try getting a medicine syringe and giving say, 5ml per dose. That'd be about 90 mg of CBD/dose. And it'd save you the hassle of putting oil in capsules. You could try that and see if there's any improvement. Good luck! Pete.
