So anyone here been on Cipro before? I'm taking it for an infection and was wondering if it did anything funny to anyone. :) Thanks!

I've taken it numerous times for what I think or Doctors think are UTIs (this was before I was diagnosed with Crohn's). It always seemed to help get rid of the back pain & urgency.

It helps with inflammation as well. No real side effects for me. Maybe a headache on the first day of taking it but it goes away.

Yep Cipro is one of my drugs as I cant have Clarithromycin. So I usually end up on it and Metronidazole as a combo for my gut. Or Augmentin for my chest.

Never had any probs with it Katiesue that I can think of...

It is one of the ones I like because I have no side effects. Metronidazole/ Falgyll different story.

The doctor usyully prescribes it to me along with Flagyl when I flare. I didn't have much side effects on it.

Yeah... day three of taking it... and I've had some nice headaches... also... I think it makes me very thirsty... or maybe I'm just making up that symptom in my head. :)

Dehydration will give you headaches - I would drink plenty of water. Come to think of it I think that Cipro had the same effect on me too

Taking orally never had any issues with it. IV after a day or so, it would irritate my IV so much that would have to do a new line..

I've probably had similar issues like other with the Metronidazole/ Falgyll stuff, gas, metallic taste, etc.

Cipro is very strong and is known to be tough on the digestive system. Usually, they try to use Levaquin or a Kaflex which are in the Cipro family which are a little easier on the body. Avelox or Macrobid are also good general antibiotics. If you begin to suffer too much, ask the doctor about the ones I listed and see if they are candidates for your need.

I only had to take it for 10 days... so I'm off of it now, but my ears aren't healed yet. I still haven't taken my Humira yet... but that comes this Thursday... and actually I haven't suffered any... so it really makes me want to "accidentally" forget to take it... but I know better than that from my little Imuran incident last year. Anyways I got a whole slue (wow is that spelled right? Firefox says so) of blood tests done... and everything is in normal range!!!! I'm not showing any signs of anemia (it was 12) and my sedimentation rate is at 14 (when I was really sick it was at about 40) and all I'm waiting for now are the results of my typing test and my full iron test... Oh and my thyroid test I had done came back great! I was excited about all of this... however I've been super tired lately so it kinda made me wonder why... since I'm no longer anemic.

Anyhow... that's all I have.

katie: normal to feel really tired while taking or just having taken cipro. It does that to me too!

Um, aren't you a college student? :ylol2: I thought being tired was just part of the whole education process.

Yeah yeah... well one would think thats what its from... but I'm actually not staying up too late due to the fact that I get homework and term papers done during the day or evenings... Of course I do have the nasty early classes... but nothing a midday nap can't fix.
