I have been obsessed with drinking (pulp free) coconut water. I was wondering if anyone has had issues with this positive, negative or neutral.

The last time I had coconut water (I think it was Zico brand), I got diarrhea. Fresh coconut water does not have that effect however.

I'd be tempted by the coconuts that are sold as drinks, but not packaged processedl dead coconut water.

I'm afraid of the raw ones so im only drinking the pasteurized ones because I don't want to introduce new bad bacteria.

I gagged while trying to drink a brand that was in a single serve tetra pack. It was pineapple/coconut water. What brand did you try?

I drink blue monkey coconut water without adverse effects. And I always feel more hydrated after (something I've had serious issues with in the past).

I've only tried coconut water a few times while on vacation in Trinidad, and it was real, fresh coconut water. Was actively flaring at the time, so it would be hard to tell, but I don't think I had any adverse reactions to it. I did find it a little too sweet for my liking but it was refreshing in small quantities. I'm not sure if this counts, but I do go to the Asian markets regularly and pick up those roasted coconut drinks that come in big white cans. I'm not sure how healthy it really is but it helps to satisfy urges to eat since I'm on TPN and constantly hungry.

Coconut products are supposed to be a very healthy source of MCT's and the fat is good for you and healing on the intestines. Just make sure to get it pure without the other ingredients like chemicals, gums and sugar.

I am wondering too if the so called good fats are bad for IBD because of the intestinal digestion being compromised??? Does anyone know of a study on this??? These are things that should be relayed to patients as these types of foods are being touted as being healthy from controlled claims from those without IBD.

when I am in a flare I drink harmless harvest coconut water - it is raw, but it doesn't hurt me - it's one of the only things that doesn't hurt me when I flare and gives electrolytes. i take probiotics with it when I'm worried about bacteria but they are a pretty repuatable company - the other brands actually hurt my stomach. Also, sometimes anything sweet bothers me unless I cut it in half with water, but when I'm having a flare I actually drink coconut water cut with water all day and take probiotics and it often helps things calm down for me in a few days.

However, I also think everyone is different, but it helps I find. When I am not flared I also drink coconut meat/coconut water smoothies, blended really well. Coconut oil contains short chain fatty acids that don't need do be digested by the small intestine and I think this helps me get good fats into my system.

I rarely flare anymore unless I start eating not as well or stress my body out.
