Does anyone have more flare activity at night? I've been flaring since last year and never get sleep. I'm in the bathroom more than usual during the day, but it's bearable. At night it's every hour almost or less. So it's very active at night for some reason. It prevent me from working in the evening hours and I never go out for fun anymore. After 7pm things get frustrating.

Maybe it's my position at night, laying down promotes digestive activity?

Does it work this way for anyone else?

It could be the heavy food you eat for dinner that causes it.Usually I was always able to get sleep at night. Mornings was always the worst.

Also, I notice what I eat in the mornings determines how much I would go during the day. Waffles, scramble eggs, toast in the morning worked great for me recently but if i choose to eat hot dogs in the morning forget it, I go a lot during the day.
Man I love hot dogs during the summer.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day:)
Try to eat dinner a little early, see if it causes your stomach to calm down before bed.

Do you have abdominal pain when laying down? I used to have urgency when laying on my left side when I was flaring. Drove me nuts. Between the cramping and sprinting to the bathroom, I didn't get any sleep.

Unfortunately I never found a fix for this untill I went on Remicade a few years back.

during the day you are awake and have slightly more controls over the bowels, how ever when you're sleeping you have none. I agree with the others try eating earlier. And make sure you sleep on your back, I was never able to sleep on my sides when things were bad.

HI there,
i agree with the others eat earlier in the evening. Somthing light and let the food digest for a few hours and see will that help. if things presists i would go to your doctor and see what he could do for you.

The inflammation starts at the bottom and moves up, so the left side is always worse than the right side.

It does make sense. It seems laying down is probably the culprit. I am most comfortable on my left side - yet my colon is least comfortable, which makes it difficult to lay down. Sleeping and less control over bowels doesn't make as much sense - I simply don't sleep. I can't remember the last time I slept in years. I don't know how I survive.

I've tried eating earlier, it doesn't seem to help. It seems no matter what I try all my food collects and digests after 8pm. Biological clock?

Sometimes right when I lay on my left side - I can can count to 10 and sure enough I have to go! That also makes sense when you look at anatomy. The sigmoid and descending colon reaches the end of the body on that side. Gravity probably pressure probably helps it decide to empty immediately.
