Tomorrow morning is my colonoscopy. Dr wants to see what's going on up there since my resection a year ago. He got sneaky and wouldn't refill my meds until I agreed to the procedure so here I am.

I'm halfway through the jug of halflytely and I'm in MISERY. This stuff is so nasty!! I just can't understand why there aren't easier preps for this damn procedure. I swear I wouldn't mind it so much if it weren't for having to drink all this foul tasting stuff.

Sorry to complain but I knew you guys would understand. :stinks:

Do you have any lemons?
I found cutting small pieces of lemon and keeping a piece between my teeth helped while drinking the stuff throuh a straw as quickly as possible, it helped to get it down.
It is so awful though.
Another suggestion would be a hard candy in the mouth.
This last colonoscopy I was given dulcolax x 4 then three hours later picolax and the volume is so small you can drink it in a couple of glasses. Then have to drink lots of water though for proper cleansing.
You have my sympathy--- soon be over---keep it cool.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

Awh honey. We've all been there, we'll all be there again. It sucks, but the good news is "this too shall pass." (literally, ha).

Side note: Have you guys heard of these miracle berry things? They make sour things not sour anymore. For example, when you suck on a lemon it tastes like lemonade, and not sour at all. I have tried them myself and they definitely work, though not absolutely. I found myself wondering if they could be used to make colonoscopy preps more tolerable. I'm going to try them next time I have a scope.

Thanks for the support! I had half the jug of halflytely down and just puked it all up plus it hasn't even kicked in yet prior to upchucking it. :ywow:

Now I have to go back and finish the other half. This is not looking good.

Oh no! I puked with my first prep. It was a pill prep but they made you drink so much with it that my stomach was way too full. I called my GI and he made me go out and buy a laxative. I hope the rest of your prep goes okay. It'll be over soon. Go slower than they recommend if you need to. It's better to get it all down than to try to hard and have it come back up.

Where do you get these "miracle berries" ?
I would like to buy some especially for preps.

Sky,
Sorry you are having such a hard time of it.
Hope everything works out for you before the scope.
Feel better soon

I dunno if they would actually help with the prep, it was just a crazy idea I came up with while I was torturing myself last time. You can buy tablets on Amazon (that's one brand, but not necessarily the one I tried). You just dissolve one on your tongue and it makes your brain not recognize sour anymore. It's crazy. Our favorite was salt and vinegar potato chips. Normally I can only eat a couple of those and I'm done, but suddenly they tasted kind of sweet and were delicious! It's a fun/silly experience.

I have used Moviprep the last 2 scopes and I just wish they would not use such a sweet artificial sweetner. The berries sound good!

I had one on friday and the prep didnt clean me out enough so I have to do it again. I hope they change my prep this time.

I am the same as you with a colonoscopy tomorrow :) it is my first one though so this mixture is new to me and never needed laxatives before.

I am having the moviprep 2 litre sachets and finished my last litre about 20 minutes ago, the drink itself except the last glass was ok, however i have not been off the toilet for nearly 4 hours now and all of it since the 2nd litre has just been water, when will this ever end its so painful continually using tc haha

Awww, I feel you there! The prep is the worst, I think it's worse now than when I first started doing colonscopies, back then it was 3 days of fasting and prep. I am always so dehydrated by the time I get to the scope now, that I get that terrible migraine.

Ewww just thinking about the preps makes me wanna vomit... At least it will all b over tomorroe & you'll get a nice nap out of it!!

Good luck! :)

:eek:My doc lets insane amounts of miralax and gatorade for prep. I must admit, it isnt bad at all...much worse was some kind of "tropical fruit" flavored garbage i had to drink for a CAT scan...now that stuff i thought was for certain gonna come right back up...

The preps are the worst.

Saw my GI last week and he ask me when was your last scope. I answered Last week... he looked at me and smile. It was 13 months ago. I'm seeing him again in 6 months and I am preparing myself,. I'm sure he'll wantt o take a peek to see if everything is ok.

When will we ever get the Tricorder from star-trek?

Good luck to you.

I know we should never do this, but I put it off for 7 years until this fall when I finally had one. I knew my Crohn's wasn't active in that time, but I realize they check for other things as well.

Well my time on the toilet has finally stopped after 5 hours of unbelievable pain, actually looking forward to the rest i will get while they take a look inside (going under general anesthetic, im too chicken for any other way haha)

Now the effects of not eating since yesterday feel doubled and my stomach is making some very interesting noises :p

I had a barium swallow a couple of weeks ago, the results for that came back normal, strangely i found the taste pleasant, everyone who i have spoke to and the man in the cubicle opposite me said they really struggled to drink whereas i finished it in less than a minute and didnt mind the taste one bit.

Very strange tastebuds i have :)

Oh, don't worry you're not alone there. In March, it will be the first scope I've had in I dont know how many years. It's definitely been atleast 5 years but probably longer

Oh, good, I don't feel so bad now. I would not have gone this fall, but I was CERTAIN my Crohn's was active again, and I was right. I had so many scopes in the first 15 years of diagnosis, that I just couldn't take any more.

I just figured it's been so long, I could suck it up for a few days and get it over with to make sure everything's okay.. Although I consider cancelling it every single day lol

This was my third one in three years! I'm pretty over the silly things.

Never did get the last half of that lovely liquid down. Luckily I was cleaned out enough the doc was able to complete the colonoscopy this morning.

He found a sessile polyp which he removed and biopsied. I have "healthy appearing mucosa, friable mucosa and ulceration" (it starts out sounding good but doesn't end sounding so great). He also found a diverticulum in the sigmoid colon. Geez...isn't Crohn's disease enough?! I just noticed on his notes he wants me to have an upper GI with small bowel follow through and wants me to do another colonoscopy in a year bringing me to FOUR in four years. Bah. It never ends. :)

I'm on prep day :( So I'm restricted to eating next to nothing and hqve prep hanging over my head for later... I've got moviprep this time... Not had this one before!
You guys have done well... I've had 4 in a year!!
Also, how did you persuade them to give you a general anaesthetic??
Pleased the scope was ok :)

About 40 years ago my mum had some sort of colitis and they did lots of tests.

She had to have a barium meal for one of them, and the only way she knew how to manage it was to hold her nose and down it in one go. She felt very proud of herself for managing it, right up until the point when the staff said "Right Mrs -------, could you take the other half of the drink now please"!!

She'd been so nervous, she'd not heard them say only to drink half of it at first!!
