So I had my Colonoscopy scheduled for Wednesday.
I unfortunately couldn't go.
The amount of fluids that I was to take to Clean my colon made me sick
I was up all night prior physically ill.
So my question is in Canada are there other options for the
Bowel Cleanse other than drinking a obscene
Amount of fluids??

Perhaps enemas? I know that it is also possible to get a temporary NG tube placed and get the prep through that, if you have problems drinking the fluid.

I am facing a similar problem.
It is daunting to face the prospect of 4 litres of Peglyte
Last time it was picosalix which is only 2 cups of fluid.
Due to renal failure and a new GI he will not allow picosalix since it can cause renal failure so it has to be Peglyte.
He has prescribed motileum (domperidone) to be taken 30 minutes before starting the Peglyte . This is to be 6pm first 2 litres of peglyte and 6am 2 litres Peglyte.
Have to wait and see how it works.
Last time I cut a lemon into small pieces and kept it between my teeth while drinking the prep. This worked for me for three litres then not after that.
However the amount I had kept down had worked and the colonoscopy was done.
These preps are a form of torture and there needs to be some research for substances with less medicated fluid required for cleansing.
My procedure is scheduled in a few weeks time and I am dreading it.
They are doing gastroscopy and colonoscopy at the same time---a field day.
Why don't you ask the GI for alternatives like picosalix if your renal function is ok?
The GI may also be able to offer other alternatives.
Sorry to hear you had such a bad time, you have my deepest sympathy.

I actually did have pico salax and that was twice both times with 3-3.5 liters of fluid following, for me it wasn't taste it was the amount of fluid, I took my first dose at 8pm and was able to get the fluids down ten had to get up at 3am for my second round I got down the second batch of pico salax and a couple large gulps of water, I started to feel nautious so I went to take a gravol and in the process of opening the bottle it all came right back up, unfortunately all over me too.
I had still so much fluid in my stomach that it took me 4 times of vomiting water the first time to get it all out. With the amount of fluid in my system I'm now wondering about the bottom of my stomach opening and things moving through me, when I was young I had a barium drink and after sitting in the office for 2 hours and being checked every 30 mins it hadn't moved hardly at all.. I've always had a extremely slow system, so I'm not surprised I was sick.
I'm going to be chatting with my dr about other options other than drinking the fluids as there's no way I can keep it down.

Maybe they need to take a look at transit times for you.
What you describe certainly sounds on the low side.
Always good to air these issues with your GI.
Hope they can find a suitable compromise for you.
Feel better soon

Is Citramag available in Canada? I had that for my last colonoscopy and the amount of liquid to drink was considerably less than I've had to have in the past with other bowel preps.

I,m dreading the next scope as I won,t be able to do the prep, last time I just made it and no more as soon as I drank the slop it recycled the wrong way.i feel for you

It is hard, but for me, it is mind over matter. I really need the test, so I really need to drink the gunk. The prep for my 2nd coloscopy (I have had 3) did not fully clean me out. So, they bumped me 2 hours and had me drink another jug at the hospital. I just drink them as fast as I can, more of a pour down the throat vs. drink. Less tongue, mouth feel, and taste that way. I drank them so fast, they were worried, but it all came out in the end.

I'm so sorry Peterson that you're having so much difficulty with the prep for the scope. I just finished mine yesterday and I know the amount of liquid is so hard to get down. My stomach doesn't empty quickly and I feel like a barrel when I'm trying to get 4 litres of horrible liquid down. My GI suggested the Pico- Salate next time and to try drinking through a straw. Use Gatorade or 7-up or apple juice for the extra liquid. I know when I had a partial obstruction they wanted me to be sipping clear liquids through a straw as you tend to take more in quickly.

The other problem I had with the Colyte was that the massive amount of cold liquid actually lowered my core temperature and I started to shake & shiver from the cold. So I tried a hot bath and it seemed to help with the stomach feeling bloated and stopped the shivering.

Other than that you'd have to ask your GI about alternatives. Probably enemas would be the next option. There is a new product coming - Prepopik - but I don't think it's in Canada yet.

Take care - I know it's awful!
