Sorry for such a long post in advance

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and am asking for personal stories about open (laparotomy) stomp reversal surgery. Here is a little bit about me and why I am asking. I personally do not have Crohn's, it is actually my husband. He was diagnosed at 19 and has had 4 surgeries for it. The last one was crazy. We have been married for 11 years now and he had only ever experienced a flare up every once in a while but then the inflammation would go away or the blockage would free itself and everything would go back to normal. Well around our youngest daughter's 1st birthday he began having flare ups. They were more frequent and lasted longer. Well he had never had any real issues with it before while we were together so I assumed (I now know to NEVER assume anything) that he knew what he was doing. He went to the GI he put him on phlaggle and another medication. It seemed to be working and he was eating again. However he kept losing weight. He lost about 50 lbs over the course of the year. I at first thought it was intentional and then I began to worry. All my nagging is what got him into the dr in the first place. Then this last September he was in such extreme pain he begged me to take him to the emergency room. Well I left work and did just that. He was admitted that day and pretty much they let him sit in the hospital for a week on pain killers before they decided he needed emergency surgery. After the surgery the dr came out told me he had to resect both his small intestine and part of his colon. He gave him and end ileostomy to help his colon heal because he was so sick that he developed a very bad infection. They had him in recovery and soon discovered his breathing was labored. They then moved him to surgical icu. Later that night he went into septic shock and coded twice. As a result he had multiple mini strokes. Traumatizing does not even begin to describe what I felt and a little of what he remembers. Well the dr said he would reverse the ileosotmy after 3-6 months. Yesterday made 3 months to the day of the surgery. The dr is planning on reversing the ileostomy later this month. I have been doing all the research I possibly can but I have been finding information mostly on loop ileostomy reversals. I was hoping I could hear from some of you who may have had open reversals and what you went through. I'm just trying to be as informed as I can be as the last time was like getting hit by a bus that made no sound. Thank you all so much. I am sorry for such a long lost.
