This backstory is a bit long, so I will try and make it nice and short. At the end of October, I was in a car accident. Both cars were finished.. I was taken to a hospital because at the time I was complaining of chest pain and there was some severe bruising on my left side near my hip bone (walking was extremely painful).
Well, turns out everything was fine, as far as my hip / chest was concerned, well as far as the CT scan, Xray, and that gel they smear on to check your heat area.. (sorry totally drawing a memory blank as to what its called).
There was one issue. When they did a blood test they found my CK and CK-MB was high. Now from what I understand, CK refers to the total inflammation in the body. Other than this, there is CK-MB, (specific to the heart muscle) CK-BB (brain) and CK-MM (forgot this one..).
Anyways, my initial results for my CK was around 430, and my Ck-MB was 230. They decided to keep me in the hospital for an extra day to observe my heart. The reason is, an elevated CK-MB could be a sign of an oncoming heart attack, and it tends to peak after 36 hours. The next day it was still high, but my CK-MB dropped to 190 and on the last day it was around 180. Since it was a clear sign of it going down, I was released from the hospital.
I should note that the normal range for CK-MB is 6-15 I believe.. So my results are quite high..
Anyways, a week after the incident I got my blood preasure / x ray done again because I was still experiencing chest pain. My Ck dropped to 180 ish. and my CK-MB was 145. Still high, but its going down, great... Or so I thought.
Fast forward 2 weeks after this, which is now 3 weeks after the car incident. I got another blood test done, and my CK-MB shot back up to 180. The doctor was a bit confused *I should note that initial hospital i went to when i had the car accident was 1.5 hours away from where I live, I live in a small city, but all these other follow up appointments are at my local hospital..
So he was confused as to it being so high, at 180, so I made an appointment with the specialist. They ran a full battery of exams, from CKG, ultrasound of my heart, blood test, xray. Everything was normal, except the blood test.
So the doctor decided to run a more in-depth anaylsis on my blood, told me to come back in a week. When I returned, he gave me the more indepth which showed that actually, my real CK-MB was within normal range of 2-6, but he showed there was something called "band 1" that was high. The doctor said that the reason for it being high, could be related to crohns.
So I visited my crohns doctor a few days ago, and brought all my blood test results as well as all the heart results with me. My crohns doctor said that he doesnt know of any connection between CK-MB and crohns, but also the issue is, on a normal crohns blood test, they dont test for CK-MB, this is a very specific test that they only due if you complain of chest pain.. So he was unsure as far as that connection goes...
So now i am puzzled. Obviously there is a reason why its high, but I cant seem to figure out why. Sadly since I have never had a CK-MB measured before the accident, I dont know if it was always high to begin with..
So I was wondering, has anyone here ever heard of a connection between a high CK-MB and crohns?
