Hi all :). I have been diagnosed w Leaky Gut Syndrome but not yet been officially diagnosed w crohns but the specialists i'm seeing suspect it(Nutritionist, GP, Immunologist etc.).

I went for a colonoscopy a few months back and when the dr. told me my large colon was fully healthy i was confused, angry and desperate to find some answers because i haven't eaten anything i enjoy in over 4 yrs and my skin is in a terrible state, which ruin my social life along with most of the rest of my life.

Anyway i don't have insurance and the colonoscopy cost 1400 euro(about $2,000), so i really have to pick my battles when it comes to treatments, i'm not made of cash :(.

I just have the feeling it will be tossing more rapidly decreasing money down the drain and they'll just say ''nope, no problem here''. I am also concerned that the surgery will be invasive, whether its an anesthetic that i react badly to or an incompetent medical professional.

Can someone who has been down that route give me some advice on the importance and safety/risks of the procedure please? Thanks. :D

It's a pretty safe procedure overall but whether having it is a good idea is a whole different ballgame. I notice you didn't list GI under those specialists, have you been to one? And who diagnosed the leaky gut syndrome, your nutritionist?

What are your symptoms?

I haven't consulted a GI. A doctor and holistic nutritionist did a PolyethelyneGlycol (PEG) Test which came back positive for leaky gut. My symptoms are chronic exhaustion, constipation/diarrhea, eczema(autoimmune), depression, intolerances to almost all food/pet dander/perfumes etc. Severe weight loss.

Definitely the worst is my eczema, it covers most of my body and itches and burns like you wouldn't believe for hours a day, always the first thing to react to inflammation as well. As you can probably imagine my social life and most of the rest of my life has been on hold for years.

I would be seeing a GI specialist. They are far more qualified and can pinpoint your disease. Not even an internist, a Gi is the way to go. Exzema is itchy, my mom has it but I don't ...you dont need to put your life on hold, no one should. :hang:
