Constant nausea...what's going on?!

Nausea may not be exactly the right word, but I don't know how else to describe what I'm feeling. It's sort of this sick feeling in my stomach, right below my ribcage. It's kind of a sense of being unsettled, but not acidic as far as I can tell. I have the sensation probably 85% of the time. I even wake up in the middle of the night with it and have a hard time falling back asleep because it feels so horrible. I woke up with it last night and had to take two doses of Emetrol (sp?) to get back to sleep. I think I'll call my GI tomorrow but I don't know what he can offer me, I haven't been able to tolerate anything he's given me so far, besides the Asacol...Most everything makes me incredibly fatigued and drowsy.

Interestingly, my lower GI symptoms have lessened a great deal. I haven't had diarrhea in weeks, and on that end I feel relatively close to normal.

Has anyone else had anything like this? What should I do?

No real cramping or pain, some sense of bloating though. My stomach makes a lot of noise, but it's been doing that ever since I got sick. It's often worse if I lie down, especially if I lie on my left side.

Hmmm where is the disease located in you? I've heard if it is high in your GI tract it can lead to nausea much more often than the lower parts.

I'm actually not sure, I had a colonoscopy in March but I don't remember how high up it went. I'm getting an upper endoscopy next month though, so maybe that will give me some answers.

Also, I should probably mention, I'm not as new to the forums as my number of posts implies, apparently my account was accidentally deleted. You could check out my story (same user name) if you think that might shed some light.

hi AgB621 & welcome back - sorry about the deletion, we had a hitch on the forum which caused a few user accounts to be deleted.

although you say you have no acid symptoms that you are aware of, it is quite possible to have an acidic/ulcer type condition which can cause nausea, discomfort, bloating and gurgling as you have described. i am prone to this myself, and virtually never actually get the acid burning which one may expect.

i would suggest, as an experiment, maybe purchasing some over the counter antacid preparation, take it regularly for 24 hours and see if the symptoms are soothed any. if they are, then you have more information to give your GP when you see him.

it could just be a temporary phase, as i get, usually due to eating something which has disagreed and set up a bit of inflammation & over activity in that area.

Thanks, dingbat. I will give that a shot. Right now the symptoms aren't too bad, so I'll wait until I start to feel worse before I try the antacids, so I can be sure of what effect they are having.

I felt really bad yesterday, but forced myself to go for a swim and the physical activity actually made my stomach feel better. Is that noteworthy at all in terms of figuring out the problem?

Nausea can be caused by so much, many things outside Crohn's cause nausea. When I was at the hospital last they told me I had a histal hernia, or something of the sort. My guts had pushed my stomach up into my esophagus somewhat, just caused a bit of heartburn.

Anyway just saying it could be so much.
