Does anyone have this problem?

My daughter has the depo *** and up until about 5 weeks ago didn't have any bleeding. The last 5 weeks she has bled constantly and pretty heavily, not just spotting.

Any thoughts on this? Do you think it's depo *** or bowel condition related? She has been to see nurse at clinic where she has the ***, but they are very reluctant to give her anything to stop bleeding as she may have an inflammatory bowel condition and seemed to think this could be related!

Hi, Niks! :)

How long was she on Depo Provera before this started?

I just googled "Depo Provera constant bleeding," and quite a few things popped up, so I think this is fairly common. Personally, I would attribute it to the birth control because it's occurred in other women, and IBD wouldn't generally cause this.

Has she tried other forms of birth control? Depo Provera and the implant have a different hormone than the other forms, so something else might not cause this for her.

Who prescribed the shot? Is she able to see a GYN about this?

I'd also ask them to keep an eye on her iron. Five weeks of bleeding could definitely cause some issues there.

I hope things go well for her!

I am pretty much always bleeding, I noticed it a lot more when I was on the depo but its usually just light spotting, if she is bleeding a lot and for long periods of time something might be wrong in that department

Thanks ladies. She's been on depo for nearly two years. She's tried other things, but with constant vomiting, pill not an option. She tried implant once, but it snapped!! Maybe might be worth going back to this.

would be good to get her bloods done. Just glad probably not related, hopefully will be easier to sort xx

Are the pills causing the vomiting? They actually make me throw up, but I'm not sure why. I was on the patches for about five years and they worked fine for me, and I'm currently on Nuvaring which also works well for me. I tried chewable pills and one brand (Generess Fe) didn't make me vomit, but the other brand I tried did. Anything that isn't in a pill form doesn't cause me to throw up, for whatever reason, but I do get extremely nauseous for the first week or two on any birth control (I've tried quite a few at this point - Depo is my last resort if the Nuvaring doesn't work out) but usually if I wait it out it goes away.

If it were me, I wouldn't try to jump back into the implant. As stated above, it's the same hormone as Depo Provera so it would likely have the same effect. :( If any other forms of birth control are an option, I'd personally want to explore those first.

No, her vomiting is down to her bowel condition, this is still being investigated. Maybe patches would be a good choice for her. Thank you!
