Hello everyone,

I've had all the symptoms of Crohns for about 15 years of my life except for the diahroea. Instead I deal with constipation and incomplete bowel movements daily. Sometimes it'll go into recession and I won't deal with it for a week or so but then it comes back. My doc seems to think it's Crohns. I am just looking for anyone else out there that may have been diagnosed with Crohns with being constipated?

Thank you,
Ryan

Hi there!
I've got/had bowel inflammation (crohns depending on what dr you ask!) and I suffer with bad constipation- it takes days for laxatives to work and contrast didnt go through bowel properly so I understand!

I have constipation and crohns. Been diagnosed almost 10 years and never really suffered with diarrhea. Once in awhile I get it but not that often. My dr said something like 5% of crohns patients they see have diarrhea instead, they also said it tends to be more painful than crohns with diarrhea.. I suppose if its stuck then that would do it. I have a terrible time staying hydrated for some reason and that is a big player in my pain.

Constipation instead of diarrhea is particularly more common in Crohn's confined to the ileum. Colonic involvement is more likely to produce diarrhea.

Thanks for that info! That would sot of explain why i have constipation- i had ileocolitis

I also have Crohn's in my ileum (and jejunum and duodenum, also occasionally I have large ulcers in my mouth). I suffer from constipation and take both linzess and miralax. It's very interesting that Crohn's with constipation is so painful. At times I think my GP would be more comfortable treating me if I were having diarrhea. There is just no real winning with Crohn's!

I have in the exact same sites as you and I've never suffered from diarrhoea. It actually delayed my diagnosis for several months because my GI didn't think it could be anything bowel related lol! [emoji854]

I was diagnosed with Crohns in 2012 and, after a year on all the meds and low residue diet, I was almost crippled with the pain in my joints. I remember thinking, is this what the rest of my life will be like? After researching natural treatments I ditched ALL the prescribed medication and began controlling my health with diet, supplements and lots of pure clean water. I now have no pain and no diarrhea! What I did have was constipation! Horrible, painful constipation. After a bunch more research I've added a magnesium citrate supplement to my daily protocol. Seems to be working. I've heard adding a shot of prune juice with it helps too.

Yep. Over the years I practically never had diarrhoea, and would often get constipated. In the agonising wait for diagnosis I was reading everything I could find and had ruled out Crohns as it didn't seem to fit my symptoms. So I was quite surprised when the doctor said "Crohn's Disease".
