New Crohn's diagnosee here. Does anyone else get severe constipation rather than diarrhea? One of my main symptoms is that I have chronic severe constipation that is really only lessened with laxatives. Curious if anyone else had this problem and what are some things that have helped you.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. My son has constipation but it is controlled really well with Miralax and drinking lots of extra water. If you take Iron or Prednisone be careful because those can make constipation worse. Are you currently on any medications for your crohn's?

Yes! I get constipation more than diarrhea. I am actually having problems finding a doctor who can figure out what is going on. I had a colonoscopy and it showed minor inflammation of my colon but he will not diagnose me with crohns or anything for that matter. I sought a 2nd opinion and the 2nd doctor said the same thing. uggh, doctors can be so frustrating at times. Did you have any tests?

I get constipated but have another wonderfull symptom its mucus I got to the toilet and mainly leak this mucussy/watery stuff then if I do have a BM its usually a couple during the day and ,ore mucus at night

I do get constipated as part of mine, but would be hard pressed to say it's a primary symptom, except as of late. I had a lot of it before when I was on amitriptyline but since coming off of that I was back to primarily diarrhea, but over the last 3 weeks or so it's been constipation and severe nausea. In fact it got so bad this past week that I thought I was obstructed and landed in the ER (no BM for 4 days and history of stricture as well as no BM with laxatives). Turns out I was somewhat obstructed due to highly inflamed lymph nodes that were pushing on my intestine but definitely not all the way and had some pretty significant impaction as well as an infection. The plan for me right now is antibiotics and today I am going through the bowel prep used for colonoscopies to clean me out. The plan for me going forward is to be on Miralax to control the constipation when I experience it. I do like Miralax as it seems to work well and doesn't tear my stomach up like stimulants, as well as doesn't have that awful taste as in Mag Citrate, however as always check with your doc before using it. This i just my experience and doesn't mean it will or won't work for you.
