Hello. I went to the doctor yesterday for symptoms I have had since I was 12 years old. I was in and out of doctors offices/specialist my whole childhood and nobody would ever help me or try to figure out why this kept happening to me. Today I am 20 years old. I woke up with these symptoms again (7th time since I was 12) and went to a new doctor. She mentioned Crohn's Disease and now I have a consultation with a surgeon who can do a colonoscopy on Monday.

I have two questions, first did any of you have symptoms like mine that she is thinking point to Crohn's?
The major symptom I have is vaginal ulcers. Extremly painful. I can't walk or urinate when they come around. They usually start small the first day and get exponentially worse throughout the next few days, usually staying 10-14 days.
I also have always had really bad stomach pains. Usually relieved once I go to the bathroom.
I can think of three times when I woke my parents up when I was younger with a pain so sharp in my lower left side that I couldn't walk.

I also feel uncomfortable and gasy with stomach pains almost all the time.

(Before the vaginal ulcers came back I was actually thinking about going to the doctor for irritable bowel syndrome becasue the stomach pain has been weekly since I can remember)

Another thing, maybe unrelated, maybe not, is that I have always had irregular menstraul cycles.

My other question is, how bad will a colon biopsy hurt? I have a really big fear of pain. My cousin had to get a cervical bipsy and said it was by far the worst experience/pain she could ever imagine.

I am scared/anxious/looking for answers.

If anyone can provide any feedback I would be forever Thankful.

God Bless,

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The thing with a disease like crohn's is that everyone is different with how it behaves and it can cause so many different issues in the body. I have known it to cause ulcers in the mouth due to how run down the body gets from what is is going though so I suppose it is not completely beyond the realms of possibility that you are getting a 'side effect' of the disease with your ulcers. The stomach pain and gas is a more common issue that I see here with crohn's. Just to confirm however have you ever seen a gynae doc to rule out issues in this area? With regards to the biopies I have so far had about 7 scopes with biopsies taken at everyone and when I see the doc doing it on the little tv screen I can honestly say I have never felt pain from it, you will be given meds for pain relief and usually to make you feel sleepy so you don't remember much of the procedure.

I hope it goes well on Monday hun, please keep us updated on how you get on.

Welcome to the forum!

Like Angrybird said, everyone's symptoms are different. It's hard to come to conclusions based on symptoms alone; that's part of the reason a lot of people go through years of symptoms before they get answers. I'm glad you're on the road to a diagnosis!

Will you be awake for the colonoscopy? I've had anesthesia for mine, and had biopsies done. I didn't feel it afterwards. If you're too nervous, you may be able to ask for anesthesia (depending on where you are). If not, you're still unlikely to feel / remember much, as Angrybird said.

I hope it goes well!

Hello and welcome!
I hope they find out what's wrong soon. They generally put you Unger a light anesthetic during a colonoscopy and you wake up like nothing has happened. I don't remember being in pain after wards try not to worry about it to much. Look at it he's another step closer to finding out what's wrong and having relief.
When our bodies are under a lot of stress it messes with or cycles. I don't think I have had a regular cycle since being diagnosed. There is a sub forum on here for ladies only, check that out, I'm sure someone on there is going through the same things you are
Good luck with the consultation on Monday and let us know how it goes!
