I'm seeing my GI today, and I know he wants me to go on Humira. Was resisting, but last two weeks have been in a flare, not nice! So I am thinking about trying it.

Are there problems with it I should know about, for example is it hard to get off (like Prednisone) or other issues?

And what is best, syringe or pen ? (I am a real baby when it comes to needles, I have heard that the pen is less traumatic)

Any Aussies out there on Humira? Do people on a pension get cost assistance with it? (I am contemplating retirement - I turn 65 this month - dont want to be stuck on something that chews up all my income)

Advice - go for it. It's the only thing that's worked for me recently apart from pred which I obviously couldn't stay on for an extended period. I use the pen, it's easy once you get used to the click it makes when you push the button.
As for cost, it's $5.80 with health care/pension card :)

I had good initial results. It's been about six months - and it's working fantastically now. It's been a slow build - but I am very happy with it.
It's on the PBS - so the most you will pay without a concession or healthcare card is $35 anyway.
I have been using the pens - swapping over to the syringe this week.

Happy retirement too - what a milestone! Congratulations!!

I had been on pred for about 3 months, doc said if the CT scan showed that I did not have to have surgery then he would put me on Humira.
Been 8 weeks now and even with me having to be careful about what I eat I do feel a LOT better.
I use the pens, they work good for me and have found the icing were I am going to inject the Humira keeps it from burning.
The shot I did last Friday was pain free.

Good luck.

I'm in a similar situation as you, my GI has recommended either Imuran or Humira. I see him tomorrow. After much research adn tons of reading on this forum, I think I'm going to go with Humira.
I'm in the US so our costs for drugs and medical care are outrageous, but from what I understand, Humira has helped so many people, so I'm going to go for it.
Best of luck to you and I hope you find relief and healing!

I'm in the same boat, my appointment is Thursday morning and I was given the choice of Humira, Imuran or Remicade (see my thread in the treatment forum) but I am leaning heavily toward Humira at this point.
