After 5 years free of bowel obstructions I've now had my 5th one this year.Had a right hemicolectomy and terminal ilem resection in 2007 because of frequent blockages, now they're happening at the op site.Docs want to inflate the op site(this has calcified)Perforation is a concern but they assure me that can be fixed. Is there anyone out there having blockages and/or had an inflation done?

Hi KJS,
Haven't had the balloon dilation done but am a candidate - had a similar operation to you many years ago, with similar outcome. A largely low residue diet has meant that I've lasted a long while, hopefully indefinitely. As far as I understand it, dilation can be quite successful for at least some period of time, perhaps even some years. Dilation of the large bowel appears to be longer lasting (from studies I've read.) As long as your inflammation is under control it should be a success for you. The last thing they want is to perforate the bowel so they are extremely careful! Sounds as though you need some intervention.
Good luck, and hope you are much relieved.

Hi KJS, had balloon dilations done many times. For me they dont last long but for others it can be a godsend & last for ages. The procedure is virtually no different from a Colonoscopy except they perform the balloon dilation during it. Well worth a go & TBH your specialist wouldn't suggest it if he didn't think it would benefit you.
I really hope this procedure gives you the relief you so obviously deserve.
Best Wishes
Grant
