Copious gas - Entacort or surgery side effect?

Hi - my GI put me on Entacort for 3 months post gallbladder removal and small bowel resection surgery. Im into 2nd month. I have noticed copious gas that is almost comical. Could that be from the steroids, gallbladder surgery or the resection? I'm hoping it is the Entacort and will end in 3 months. I'd hate to think this is the "new me" post resection/gallbladder surgery.

Anyone else having gas out there? ha Any senior members who can advise?

(Surprisingly, I'm totally comfortable talking about this here):clown:

Hi Sparkle2012! You may be dealing with some bacterial overgrowth caused by the resection. Otherwise known as SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth). This can cause excessive gas production. Can be treated with antibiotics (you should be tested for it before doing that, there's a breath test for it) or change of diet or taking probiotics with a high amount of good bacteria.

I'm not 100% sure that's what it is but its a possibility. My GI is always asking me if I have a lot of gas and wants to say I have it just because I've had a resection. No I don't though.

Thanks Crabby. I did some more research and read that gas is a side effect of Entacort. But you may be right on that. I never was a "gas" person until I had hem surgery a few years ago. Now this surgery and it's even worse. I'm going back on the Align and see if it makes a difference. I have appt in March with the GI, and will pursue that test.

You hit the nail on the head. The probiotics helped. Thanks again!
